| AUSTRALIA the island continent is located South East of Asia and forming the Commonwealth of Australia, a self-governing member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The continent is bound to the north by the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Torres Strait; on the east by Coral and Tasman Seas; on the south by the Bass Strait and Indian Ocean; on the west by the Indian Ocean. Australia extends for about 4025km(2500miles) from east to west and for about 3700km(2300miles) from north to south. Its coastline measures some 19,650km(12,210miles) Australia has an area of 7,686,848 sqkm (2,987,909 sqmiles), and the area of the continent alone is 7,636,233 sqkm (2,948,366 sqmiles), making Australia the smallest continent in the world. QUEENSLAND is bounded on the north by the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Torres Strait; on the east by the Coral Sea & the Pacific Ocean; on the west by Northern Territory and South Australia; on the south by New South Wales and South Australia. The state is roughly bisected by the Tropic of Capricorn. The eastern third of Queensland is dominated by the Great Dividing Range, a series of mountains and plateaus that runs the entire length of the state. To the east of the range are several isolated highland areas, including the Atherton Plateau, site of Queensland's highest point, meeting Mount Bartle Frere (1611m/5287ft). To the west of the range is a region of rolling grasland and, in the west half of the state, a vast semi-arid plain. Much of the eastern coast of Queensland is sheltered by the Great Barrier Reef, a tourist attraction that has the largest known coral deposits in the world. Queensland's renowned liveable climate makes this state one of the preferred tourism destinations througout the world and the Fraser Coast is the pearl of the Pacific rim. |

| The area within the TIARO SHIRE held 3 distinct groups of Aboriginal people, the Dowabara, the Kabi and the Badjala. White settlement of the area began in the 1840's with several pioneers attempting sheep farming. Many factors, including dingoes made sheepfarming difficult but ultimately wet ground conditions and numerous diseases put an end to this agricultural pursuit. The township of Tiaro is situated between Maryborough and Gympie and has 11 small but vibrant communities within its borders, being Miva, Glenwood, Gunalda, Bauple, Tinnanbar, Gundiah, Curra, Theebine, Tallegalla Estate, Bauple Estate and Antigua. Many of these were originally born around the expansion of the rail lines. TIN CAN BAY is situated approx. 2 and a half hours north of Brisbane and is the gateway to The Great Sandy Strait and heritage listed Fraser Island. It is a fisherman's haven boasting a culinary of seafood delight which includes sand and mud crabs and a variety of fish and prawns species. The Tin Can Bay dolphins are also a highlight not to be missed, feeding times are 8am most mornings at the Northern Point boat ramp and fish supplies can be purchased from Barnacles kiosk. MUSEUM AT BAUPLE HAS SEVENTEEN EXHIBIT AREAS Immerse yourself in the history and heritage of the Fraser Coast area with a visit to the Mount Bauple and District Historical Society's cultural centre and museum. CHILDERS, THE NATIONAL TRUST TOWN In 1902 a distastrous fire destroyed much of Childers, but when the new Shire of Isis was proclaimed in 1903, most of the shops which now form the conservation area had been rebuilt, with an amazing variety of architectural styles which are largely intact today. WALK IN THE STREETS OF MARYBOROUGH and take a step back in time, into a vibrant tapestry of history. As Queensland's third oldest city, Maryborough has earned the title of Heritage City by paying loving attention to its illustrious past. Heritage is the life-blood of Maryborough and, in fact, its future. In 1842, when Andrew Petrie, Russell Stuart, Walter Wrottesley, William Joliffe and the 5 convicts which made up the rest of the crew rowed up a wide river, leter to be named the Mary, they did it the hard way. RAINBOW BEACH Rolling surf. Kilometres of unspoilt, white sandy beaches. An escape where you can feel like the only on on the face of the earth. A perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of modern life. A place like this still exists, and it's called Rainbow Beach. This former sandmining town is perfectly situated as the "Gateway to Fraser Island", but this town of around 900 people has so many attractions that its an eco-tourim destination in its own right.
