In Hong Kong (All the funki stuff)

| Hong Kong |
| << Go back to "In Hong
Kong" Transport in Hong Kong is REALLY convenient. Some people still think Hong Kong is a fishing village where people still use rickshaws but in Hong Kong, you can get almost anywhere just with an "octopus card"...HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH TECH!! Anyways, I'm just going to introduce the most common types of (public) transportation in Hong Kong. Taxi
Mini Bus They have two types. The ones with the green top and the ones with the red top. Seriously, I don't get the difference between them but it's probably categorised according to the area they drive around. It's cheap and pretty convenient. I don't find them that dirty but some people don't like them. Because Hong Kong is such a hi-tech city, you can pay for most mini buses using your octopus card (but you can't for some, like the one going from Kwun Tong to Mong Kok). Most mini buses now have TV sets (which is kind of a waste of money because no one stays long enough to actually pay attention...and all the shows are repeats...and boring. But at least it makes Hong Kong look technologically advanced). KMB KMB is part of Hong Kong. KMB buses are those double decker buses (some are single deck) you see around Hong Kong all the time. Again, very convenient because there are so many stops and so many buses and routes. You can pay for all KMB rides with the octopus card and all the air-conditioned buses have TV SETS (showing Hong Kong's level of technology!!). The air-conditioned buses are the white or gold coloured buses and the brownish yellow buses are non-air conditioned. I REALLY hate those ones. They have freakishly hard seats and are really dirty. The air-conditioned ones are REALLY nice and comfortable...I liiiiiike. MTR I FINALLY LEARNT HOW TO USE THE MTR LAST YEAR hahaha!! The MTR (The Hong Kong underground Rail system) can get you around the whole of Hong Kong and you can pay using the octopus (seriously, you can do ANYTHING with an octopus card). The MTR station system is always expanding. It's annoying when you have to change trains but it's convenient (there's about a train every 3 minutes), cheap and comfortable if you can get a seat. Most of the time, you won't be able to get a seat (especially if it's rush hour...it's just scary. The MTR station looks like Causeway Bay on New Year's eve). So expect loads of squishing. Usually, there are less people at the ends of the train so walk to those ends of the platform when waiting for the next train. The trains are now soooo hi-tech. They have flashing diagrams of the MTR station map in each cart and it shows (WITH ARROWS) the way they train is going, the next stop (shown as a flashing dot) and the side the doors will open. They also have the "The next stop is [station], doors will exit on the [side]" and it's in Cantonese, English and they recently added Mandarin. Isn't Hong Kong hi-tech? Hahaha. And when the doors close the voice goes "please stand clear of the doors *doot doot doot doot doot doot doot doot doot*". Just make sure you don't walk into the glass doors when getting off the train (there are two layers of doors...WAIT UNTIL BOTH ARE OPEN HAHAHAHA). The MTR also links to the KCR so that's also convenient. |
