While Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's off-air chemistry may scream whoa baby, their chemistry on screen is like watching water boil... undeservingly monotonous and utterly boring. Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck) is the hunky-tempermental-wannabe gangster who must keep an eye on Brian (Justin Bartha), the seriously bad imitation of Raymond from "Rain Man". Minutes within the movie, Ricki (Jennifer Lopez), the sexy-kick ass-lesbian, pathetically enters Gigli's apartment unexpectantly, only to announce that she is to keep him company. Apparently their boss Louis (Lenny Venito) thinks Gigli will screw up his assignment. After bullying and getting over his resentment of having to keep watch of the slow-witted Brian, Gigli desides to put the moves on Ricki, despite her testament of her sexual preference. Ricki on the other hand decides to become a seductress, by performing yoga-karma sutra moves, while explaining to Gigli why women are better. This scene was overly dramatic and not necessary. Another scene that would have been welcomed on the editing room floor, was the scene where Gigli introduces his mother (Lainie Kazan) to Ricki. Again this scene was overplayed, under developed, and unnecessary since its significance was understated. To further enunciate the flaws of the movie, the flick was sprinkled with parched humor and it distastefully portrayed a young man with autism. Furthermore, too much attention was given to Brian and not enough to the head boss, Louis (Al Pacino). While Lopez and Affleck are bankable actors, their interactions in Gigli were stale and just plain wrong. One can only imagine why another would sit through the agony of having to watch this film. Why would one willingly be a victim to this screenplay freak accident. |
