What Was the Purpose of Writing the Bible

Chapter 3

The  Old Testament was written as both a historical documentation of the origin and travels of God’s chosen people and the prophetic warnings to future generations of what was to come.

The New Testament was written as a commentary of the Old Testament, Instruction for the Coming Church, a prophetic look at the End Times and how they will effect the Christians.

Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that the scriptures (the bible) was written for us to use as a tool for instruction in doctrine, reproof, correction; and for instruction in righteousness. God’s word was never intended to be used to judge the world (Matthew 7:1-6), use as a club to beat people over the head with, nor to condemn people (John 3:17). Paul tells us here that the scriptures were inspired to do these things, not to be used by us to do them.

As you continue in the study and understanding of the bible everything will become clear as to our part in the scriptures. There are only three messages given in the bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelations 20:21.  Remember these messages as you study:

  1.  God is love and He wants to share His love with all men.
  2. Jesus is our salvation.
  3. The Holy Spirit will help us make it to the second coming of our Lord.

If you keep these three things in mind, we can truly understand the bible.
