Warnings From God

Chapter 3

Day 3

First we must establish the difference between a warning from God and a Warning of the End Times. A warning from God is something that will take place now (or soon) because of a certain action, or failure to meet certain requirements, on our part or someone else's.

              Example: In (Deuteronomy 27) the Lord begins by telling Israel the many blessings He will give them if they kept His commandments. Beginning in verse 15 God warns them of the many curses that will fall upon them if they fail to heed His commandments. A warning of the end times is a prophetic warning which we will study on day 5.

The warnings in the Old Testament were for the Israelites and very few concern us. What about the New Testament? Yes, the New Testament is full of warnings and these were meant for all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Example: ¹⁴For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6: 14-15).

In verse 14, Jesus tells us what the Heavenly Father will do for us if we forgive. But notice the warning in verse 15. This is probably the most frequently ignored warning in the bible. We use the Lords prayer many times as our own, but we fail to meet the requirements for prayer because this part isn’t taught. No wonder God says no to many of our prayers!!

Not only do we find warnings in the Gospels, but they are also contained in the other books of the New Testament.

Example: ¹Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, ²instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. ³And God permitting, we will do so.

⁴It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, ⁶if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Hebrews 6:1-6.

The warning here is against not growing as a Christian. There is more to Christianity than salvation, baptism, and the end times. Notice the prophecies of the End are included in the milk of the scripture, what a revelation! We must move on with our studies to the meat of the scripture (1 Corinthians 3:2) and learn how not to fall away from God. Notice the example in verses (6-7) given by the writer if we don’t. You will notice this was a person who had been saved, baptized, and had received the Holy Spirit.

This is just two examples of the many warnings from God contained in the New Testament. What we must do through much prayer and study is to learn to discern the difference between a warning from God and a warning (prophesy) of the End Times. The warnings from God are there for a reason just as the warnings (curses) of the Old Testament were.
