Gillian's Almanac Of Creepy-Things

Be aware traveller, that the tome you hold in your hands has been chronicled to help you overcoming many of the living obstacles you might encounter. There is no warranty about the accuracy of this tome, or its applicability to your area. Many civilisations have the same names for vastly different creatures, so do not be mislead if you know any creature listed here by another name. I have noted them under the names, I have most often heard for the being in question. If there are several common names, they are listed within the description of the creature.

Some of the knowledge has been gained at great personal risk to the author of this book. All has been proven true, often several times, by opposing these creatures, or fighting at their side. As far as I know the knowledge contained within these pages is true. Never forget my warning: Every place and world has its own wildlife and monsters, that can be vastly different from that of any other place. Creatures called by the same name in various places might sill be vastly different beings. Sometimes there are also vastly different names for one and the same creature, formed by different cultures.

Where you learn the format and meaning of the abbreviations in the statistics part of the monster entries, which vary somewhat from standard D&D format. The description part of the entries within this tome also use a format different from those you might be used to. While it should be self-explanatory after you read a few, here is the description, for those to lazy to figure it out themselves and the bean counters.

Undead are creatures that should be resting within their graves. For one reason or another they do not and haunt the world of the living. Undead can be as simple as automatons and as frightening as any fiend, depending on the type of creature you will meet.

These creatures are living beings of flesh and blood. Most of them are or at least seem monstrous to us. The only unifying thing about these beings is, that they are generally considered alive. On any given prime world it is the most likely type of being to be found.

Paramortals is a catchall phrase for planar natives, fiends, celestials and other beings making their home on the inner or outer planes. All of them are single minded in a way, either bound by their element or that which their home plane represents. There also is alien wildlife in the planes, but usually it has been touched by its home one way or another, that might not be entirely obvious.
