The Romans

Introduction

The Roman Empire

Year 7

There is much to learn about the civilised and barbaric deeds of The Romans. You will find out about the growth and development of the Roman Empire and why it was so successful. We start with the legend of Romulus and Remus; the invasion of Hannibal and his elephants and then the make up and function of the Roman army. You will find out about their weapons, armour training and siege engines, as well as their battle tactics eg against Boudica and in Masada.

The second part of this study is all about how civilised the Romans were and the contrast between their villas, baths and architecture compared to their gruesome attitude towards slavery and gladiator spectacles at the Colosseum. Blood and slaughter are everywhere.
