Techno Talk
This is a new concept, designed by LocoTronics .
A diagram of this system follows :-
A small section of the
railway track has to be isolated from the
adjacent track, by means
of hacksaw cuts and isolating track
joiners. This provides
an invisible locomotive detection sensor
(
a
big advantage over IR detection systems ).
A bypass wire is connected
to either side of the isolated section, this enables the motor electrical
supply to be available
to the down side of the
isolation track. This isolation section of track is now the train detector
sensor, it is wired to the detection electronic logic device.
The frequency source is fed into the railway track system.
As the locomotive passes
this isolated strip of track, the
frequency component
will be fed via the electric motor and locomotive wheels , then applied
as a trigger to the electronics of the flash frequency detection system.
As it is a high frequency signal -
20,000 Hz plus and a extremely
low current ( less than 1 micro amp )
it has zero effect on
the ( high inductive impedance ) electric motors.
Invisible
to the eye for sophisticated model railway hobbyist.
Unlike the two blatant
holes in the ballast required for IR detection.
These holes in Z and N
gauges are extremely large ( nearly the width of the track ) and
totally un-prototypical. They have no "real world place " in other gauges
either.
Not effected by ambient sources of IR ( there are many), household lighting bulbs for one.
Absolutely no interference or false train detection.
Requires no holes drilled
into layout baseboard, or ballast re-work,
or the tricky - alignment
( between sleepers ) of optics devices - this is a major problem for Z
and N gauges. No mechanical attachment to the baseboard of electronic
circuit boards.
No modifications to Loco's or Rolling Stock are required
Simple in operation, and simple to install, zero maintenance ( other than routine track cleaning ).
If you can instal a isolating section of track -- you can work the Flash Frequency Detector. LocoTronics can supplyFlash Frequency Detector track section ( pre- wired ) - if required.
Completely none mechanical,
no moving parts, all integrated CMOS
( micro amp ) electronics.
Only two wire electrical connection for complete installation.
Mechanically and electrically very robust.
Will work on all gauges Z upwards.
Far superior to all opto electronic detector systems.
Will even work on live
steam locomotives.
