"I was lucky, Steps Studios, a big commercial dance school in Manhattan, gave me a scholorship so I studied, all day long. Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Theater Dance, Voice, and Tap. I loved Tap. I took classes with several teachers but one really took me under her wing, LESLEY LOCKERY. She was a great teacher. Taught me to love and respect Tap, to modulate and color the sounds, like music, not just bang the floor, like most "occasional" tappers do. She had geat technique and knew how to pass it. She really inspired me to continue."

"As usual, however, some of the most charming moments arrive less expected: An irresistible re-creation of Ray Bolgr's show-stopping "Once In Love With Amy" from 'Where's Charley?' and a brilliantly staged 'Shanghai Lil'.

"SHANGHAI LIL" CHOREOGRAPHED BY LESLEY J. LOCKERY

"It was a pleasure meeting you and watching you work. I thoroughly enjoyed your classes. You're a wonderful teacher and dancer, and your work is charged with radiance and joy. I'm sure you will continue to enjoy great success."

"It was a terrific evening, and a very moving one for all of us. And HELEN GALLAHER and LOCKERY and LOCKERY --- what talent. I hope that you will bring them back next year!"

"---the dinner was extraordinary and the entertainment outstanding, especially HELEN GALLAGHER and PATRICIA and LESLEY LOCKERY

"LESLEY and PATTY LOCKERY have a unique way of teaching all levels of tap dancing. They impart a strong foundation in a variety of tap styles: Broadway tap, Rhythm tap, Buck and Wing hoofing, and Classic tap for concert work. They are both extraordinary teachers. Lesley sometimes uses a drum while she teaches to produce a jazz counter rhythm to a given combination of steps. This creates a sense of drama and excitement, which encourages students and gives them confidence. The sisters have devised an unusual teaching method. Patty demonstrates with impeccable sound and form as her sister explains the technique. They instruct their students in the use of the entire body to create a sense of style in their dancing. This not only helps the students produce a better percussive sound, but encourages imagination and artistic dance development. Their respect for tap dancing is imparted to their students with a strong sense of work ethics, challenging play and encouragement. Watching Lesley and Patty and their close teamwork in action is worth far more than the price of a tap class."
