Lots of Crap

Basically, I taught myself bass since Christmas 2003 then got lessons to learn theory. This is because when it came to writing my own basslines to songs I was like "er...wait...dammit". In case you hadn't noticed, I am Franz Ferdinand's biggest fan. I'm the one with the digital camera providing all the great pics and media for this site. I am also the one who made this site and the last. Hope you like them. The band got together when stuff happened and then we made music. For a more detailed account see Matt's page. If being in a band can't be my occupation, then I will aim to be a session bassist, although I think I'd be really crap at that.
I started my bass life when Chris Mills told me all about it at a party. I was intrigued. I went and bought one off the internet (not advisable) and started by learning Placebo - This Picture. I followed that up with a few more Placebo songs. I was really enjoying what I was doing and then tried some Muse. Blinkin 'eck. The first Muse song I learnt was Hysteria, and that was when I was still naive and rubbishy. But I stuck with it and, despite being the only good thing I could play, was proud of that. And so I learnt a ton of other Muse songs which opened me up to a whole new world...woo. Okay, so I was enjoying playing along to songs I liked. But then the band began. I just had to learn the thoery so I could do this properly. And I did. Ish.
I had hoped to keep my first bass for as long as physically possible but unfortunatly owing to combined efforts of destruction, ignorance, arrogance etc I looked to getting a new one. So I tried out many a different bass but one stood out more than any other. The RBX270. Wow, what a bass. Well skip the crap I went a bought it and it's the best thing ever I recommend it to newbies and proffessionals alike. But this isn't supposed to be a review!
So the band (under the name 'The Lxix' at the time) aimed to play in 'Battle of the Bands' at their school. Don't think the school is cool for one minute 'cos it was I who arranged the whole thing. So we played in it and well it could have been worse. It actually went pretty well. I can't say it was anything amazing. I gave the camera to someone whom I thought I could entrust with the pressing of a button but unfortunaly the camera made its way through several pairs of hands, by which time the settings had all been changed. Bugger.
Being in a band like this one is difficult for many reasons. Finding a place to have a gig, finding the time to practice, finding the funds for everything, making the music itself, Jonny's constant barrage of abuse, members going away, etc. And soon we will be starting college! I wanted to work on the theory: the song only survives if I'd buy it myself. At the moment we all have such different tastes and we're not that brilliant yet. As long as its good - keep it! I try and incorperate a few rules within what the band does, er, to no avail. One of these rules was to keep improving a song until theres no more that can be done to it. Jonny just says scrap it if its poo to begin with. Shame. I really think this bio is boring, I should come to back to it in a few weeks then start from scratch, so you'll have to read it all over again.
