Back to Competition Teams

General Information:

A Field Meet is a competition.  All units have a unit inspection (part of the competition) and then the competition teams (Color Guard, Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams, Academic Team, PT team, etc.) get to show their stuff.  Lake Mary enters about a half dozen field meets a year.  See the Schedule of Events page for Field Meet dates.

Unit cadets who are not on one of the competition teams are encouraged to attend the meets.  They are a tremendous help helping to transporting equipment, and cheer on their unit.  Unit spirit is a medal event.  This includes parents, so parents, come to as many field meets as you can!  If you would attend your child's soccer game, band concert or drama production, come on out to their field meets!!  See you there!

Field meets are handled similar to field trips, requiring chaperones (who can double as cheering sections - along with the rest of the non competing cadets).

Cadets who compete in field meets as part of the competition teams are issued separate competition uniforms.  These uniforms need to be washed and starched (if appropriate for the material) before being returned to the school for the next competition.

Field meets are hosted at the various high schools that sponsor JROTC programs.  When hosting a field meet, the host cadets do not compete; it is their responsibility to plan and coordinate the field meet.

Lake Mary High School has been a hosting school in past years.  The LMHS Booster Club has helped out by running the concession stand and providing breakfast and lunch for the Field Judges and Instructors for the field judges.
