Lloydminster & Area Archers' Award Regulations


A) All animals must be taken under "Fair Chase". The term "Fair Chase" shall not include the taking of animals under the following circumstances:

1) helpless in a trap, deep snow or water, or on ice.

2) from any power vehicle or boat.

3) while confined behind fences, as on game farms, etc.

4) by jacklighting or shining at night.

5) by the use of any tranquilizers or poisons.

6) by the use of any power vehicles or power boats for herding or diving animals, including the use of aircraft to land alongside an animal or animals, or to communicate with or direct a hunter in the ground.

7) by using electronic devices attached to the bow (such devices include laser sights and lighted sight pins).

8) by using a compound bow with a let-off of greater than 65%.

9) any other conditions considered by a panel (including 3 active members who are not in conflict of intrest with the hunter in question) to be of an unsportsmen like nature.

B) All animals must be taken within the boundaries of North America

C) Club fees must be paid prior to September 1st of each calendar year.

D) Animals taken prior to the member joining the Club will not be eligible for awards but will be noted in Club records.

E) All entrees must be to the Awards Chairman no later than January 31st.

F) Entry forms shall be signed by one witness who either was present at the time of the kill or has viewed the carcass of the animal.

G) When entering an animal, a picture of the member and animal should accompany the application form whenever possible.

H) All entrees must be measured by a recognized measurer and a copy sent to the awards chairman by January 31st (allowing for the sixty day drying period).

I) Skull and antlers to be measured, must be clean and dry. Antlers in velvet must have velvet removed before they can be scored.

J) New record scores or top scores of the same species that are very close in any current year will be rechecked by a panel consiting of the awards chairman, an official scorer and a member of the club executive.

K) All game must be taken according to dates, seasons, game laws, and regulations where game is hunted.

L) All game entered to the club must be taken with no other than the long, recurve, or compound bow that is hand held and hand drawn.

M) Big game animals can not be taken on special permits, all game must be taken in regular seasons.

N) Bears shot in thier dens, or beside their dens or bears in trees will not be accepted.

O) Any animal taken before the annual membership fee is paid will not be eligible for any awards or registered for the Bowhunter of the Year Competition, in that current year.

P) An animal is eligible only when recovered before search by the hunter was abandoned and all other procedures ie: tagging, cancellation of license and other provisions of the hunting regulations were carried out in full. If an animal is not recovered within twenty four hours, a letter must accompany the entry form.


Lloydminster & Area Archers' Awards:

Bowhunter of the Year: Awarded to the club member who accumulates the most points in the given year.

Lady Bowhunter of the Year: Same as Bowhunter of the Year but only open to female members. However, the woman are eligible for Bowhunter of the Year competition.

Youth Bowhunter of the Year: Same as Bowhunter of the Year, but only open to club members 17yrs old and under. Youth are also eligible for Bowhunter of the Year.

Whitetail: Awarded to the member shooting a whitetail deer, typical or non-typical which scores closest to or exceeds the Pope & Young minimum by the most. 125 TP or 150 NTP.

Mule Deer: Awarded to the member shooting a Mule Deer, typical or non-typical which scores closest to or exceeds Pope 7 Young minimum by the most. 145 TP or 160 NTP.

Antelope: Awarded to the member shooting the highest scoring antelope.

Black Bear: Awarded to the member shooting the highest scoring black bear.

In case of a tie for any trophy, the members involved will share equal time of possession of the yearly award. Both names will be engraved on the trophy in question.

Best of the Year: Animal that scores the highest in relation to the Pope & Young standard for the species. i.e. a whitetail deer scoring 140. 125 P&Y deer is 112% of minimum. Antelope scoring 70. 64 P&Y antelope is 109% of minimum, therefore whitetail deer would be the Best of the Year.

New Record: Award given to the member whose animal surpasses the previous club record.

Hard Luck Trophy Given to the Hunter who has had the worst luck during the year (indoor, 3-D and Hunting).

Citations given to members shooting animals that have no special awards available for:

Small Game Award: Member must shoot at least 10 different species of small game. No time limit as to when must be taken.

Big Game Award: Member must shoot 5 different big game species with two making the Pope & Young record book. No time limit as to when it must be accomplished, but it must be in the proper season.

Lloydminster & Area Archers Small Game List:For small game certificate you must take at least five different small game species. The points listed to the side are points that each species will give you towards Bowhunter of the Year.

Lloydminster & Area Archers' Big Game List:For Big Game certificate you must take at least three different big game species. Points listed to the side are points towards Bowhunter of the Year. All big game must be taken within appropriate seasons and under the rules of fair chase.

Bears......................50 plus head score
White Tail.................75 plus head score
Mule Deer..................75 plus head score
Antelope...................75 plus head score
Moose.....................100 plus head score
Elk.......................100 plus head score
Caribou...................100 plus head score
