The Guidance and counseling Program (GCP) is grounded on certain philosophical assumptions. GCP believes that every individual has worth and dignity ; deserves opportunities to develop their fullest potentials; has similarities and differences in patterns of growth and development with others; is entitled to a safe, caring and supportive environment; is encouraged to become responsible to self and society; is unique; and that guidance is an essential educational program. The functions of the GCP are aimed at improving students' academic achievement and personal adjustment in the university. Specifically, GCP assists the students in making use of their educational opportunities and in developing their potentials to the maximum, so that they can become effective members of the society; training students in the process leading to self-awareness and acceptance, decision-making, and in achieving satisfactory levels of adjustment with others; conducting career guidance to help student define their vocational and personal development; and embarking on a directed human resource development projects which subsumes therapeutic counseling, group guidance,psycho-social programs for academic and personal effectiveness. For effective efficiency, these services and programs are carried out by a system of referrals where faculty counselors, officers of student relations (OSRs)and college secretaries, work hand in hand with the GCP in providing assistance. |
