Oral folklore is the passing down of stories by way of mouth. Whether its done through several generations of families or just a few college kids swapping stories, oral folklore is present in our every day lives. It is a part of every story we tell our grandkids or roommate. Oral folklore is something very important in the South. In this part of the world, one starts out only with the knowledge of and pride in one's ancestors. It is with the understanding of where one comes from that can motivate them to achieve as much as they possibly can. A true southerner wants only to show so much respect to their family that they surpass their previous greatness and become the hero in stories for future generations. Everyone from the most important business man to the smallest child and everyone in between can learn to appreciate the importance of oral folklore. |
