The Thief
King and Zoku Necrophadisu:
Wow, this is gonna get confusing... Zoku Necrophadisu, more commonly
known as Zork Necrophadisu is the Bad Guy of the Ancient
Egypt arc (I can't call him Zork without bursting
out laughing, so I'll stick to Zoku).
|
First time he's
introduced is around volume 305 where he appears to a
bed-ridden Akunadin (who's recovering after being attacked by
Thief Bakura -_-).
Necrophadisu introduces himself as
Akunadin's "other"... seems like Akunadin has a
yami! This might be why Akunadin seems nice and
loyal to Pharaoh at times, regretting the mistakes he made in the
past, but other times he's downright cruel and goal-oriented. His goal:
get Seto on the throne. |
If you've read the other spoilers, you'll
know that Akunadin was in charge of the creation of the Millennium
Items, and that he had to sacrifice the people of Kuru Eruna Village
to do so. During that time, Akunadin wished on the Eye that his son,
Seto, could be pharaoh. It seems like Necrophadisu is the Eye's way
of fulfilling that wish, since Akunadin himself is loyal (though a
little resentful) to the
pharaoh (his brother/Yami's father).
In present AE time Seto himself doesn't
have any wish other than being Akunadin's successor as one of Pharaoh's
priests and guardian of the Temple of Tablets. He's under the misconception
that his father died in battle and that Akunadin is simply a close mentor. When Akunadin (or Yami Akunadin?) pushes him to conquer the
Blue Eyes (at the cost of Kisara's life)
and become King, Seto's totally confused by Akunadin's
heartlessness.
Back to Necrophadisu, during his talk with
a horrified Akunadin, he explains that the current reality is but a
memory world and he tells of a battle were he confronted Pharaoh
Yami and his priests in a massive battle at ruins of Kuru Eruna.
There he raised an army of angry spirits and challenged the Pharaoh
to a final winner-takes-all duel. |
|
It turns out he was defeated but to do so, Pharaoh Yami had to
capture Necrophadisu's soul, as well as his own, in the Puzzle. The
Puzzle
itself shattered into pieces after that, trapping both of them for
thousands of years until a boy (Yugi!) was finally able to put the
Puzzle
back together. This time 'round, whoever ultimately wins the
battle in the
memory world will rule the present world. Necrophadisu has no
intention of losing again.
Part of my confusion lies in the fact
that the battle that Necrophadisu recounts must have happened in
the original AE timeline (not the memory world timeline). So where
does Seto fit in?! If this happened before Seto's revolt, well...
Yami's already "dead", so I suppose it must have happened
after.... **makes a face** But Seto doesn't want to revolt
and the priests are headed towards Kuru Eruna right now. x_x
The other inconsistency is that Yami Bakura (who's perfectly
aware that he's in a memory world) seems to serve and
respect Necrophadisu. That fact is unusual in itself, but if
Bakura knew Necrophadisu/Akunadin had been the one to
order his entire village murdered, surely he wouldn't be so willing
to follow orders? Then I guess we can probably assume that he doesn't
know, in which case his hatred towards Yami is largely misguided.
>_<
However, things get even messier when
Bakura claims he is in fact Zoku
Necrophadisu... Does he mean that literally? |
|
It seems that when Thief Bakura attacked
Akunadin, he instilled a piece of his soul in the Eye (much like he
did with the Puzzle in present day). Since Necrophadisu/Akunadin is
the owner of the Eye, it's possible that Bakura has some control
over Necrophadisu or that he is Necrophadisu... which just
throws the whole Necrophadisu-is-Akunadin's-yami theory right out the
window... But that still wouldn't explain why Bakura treats Necrophadisu as
his superior...
On the other hand, "Zoku" is Japanese for
"thief/rebel" and "Necrophadisu" certainly bears
a resemblance to "Necrophia", Bakura's favorite card.
"Necro" is a prefix of Greek origin meaning
"death/dead body".
New: Angel
Yami-ko e-mailed me with info she found on a message board. Rumour
has it that Zoku's the one who lead Bakura to believe that the massacre
of Kuru Eruna was in fact Pharaoh's will... in other words he's
twisting truth in order to control Bakura (with promise of revenge?
Or something else?). The Memory
World might be Necrophadisu's soul room and Necrophadisu might
be Yami's yami. 0_o
Note: Check out the Tomb
Raider spoiler for some more weird possibilities of how Bakura
and Necrophadisu might be related.
