LIVING GREEN IN DOMINICA

GREEN ACCOMMODATION DIRECTORY

The goal of this page is to provide a listing of places to stay on island that promote sustainable living in “some way”. Note we say “some way”…… the places to stay listed here do not necessarily do everything in an eco friendly manner. We feel every step organizations take towards a sustainable society is important and should be noted.

This listing is free, information listed is submitted by the company.

A small eco-resort, near Rosalie, bordered on 3 sides by clear rivers, and backed by forested mountains.

They run on solar power, farm organically, and try to be
as green as they can. Their truck has been converted to
run on vegetable oil, a pollution and money-saving
system. They try to buy products with as little
packaging as possible, and do not intend to use any
disposable plastic/styrofoam utensils. They are trying to
teach employees and other locals about eco-living, and
have involved the local school in an art competition
aimed at presenting these ideas.

Crescent Moon Cabins is an eco-sensitive establishment. They effectively "recycled" the ruins of an original hotel; building on existing foundations, using local hand-harvested materials within previously landscaped areas. The grounds and green house are organic. Drinking water comes from a natural mountain spring. The community is very involved in Crescent Moon by offering trail guiding, educational farm tours, supplying additional produce, and providing transportation. They have been fortunate to have both visitors and neighbours with ecologically conscious lifestyles.
