The idea for this little book came from direct observations of my son and other children of his age: small children love to colour and they love to count too. So, I worked on a book that enables them to do all that and more! Instead of the usual (and I should think, boring!) three pencils and so on, I have them count Three Friendly Buddhist monks. I let them count One Smiling Buddha right up to Ten Happy Little Devas. Great way to include Buddhism in their normal counting activities, don’t you think?

I always feel a little uneasy when children from Buddhist families know more about Hercules, Winne the Pooh, Harry Porter, etc. Now, I’m a great fan of Winne the Pooh and Harry Porter (whoops, secrets are out) but I always think that Buddhist children should know about people, real people from the Buddha’s time.
