Clever Girl... >> Writing >> SMS fun

Remember how for a few months at the beginning of 2000 Optus was letting us send... I think it was 500 free SMSs per month?  I do.  As everyone I knew got the hang of those tricky functions there was a surge of beeping in the corridors - song lyrics made up on the bus, tales of lost love or lipstick, yes, round robin SMSs sent out in lectures in the hope someone else was equally bored - I even recall 2 hour long SMS conversations with people, one with Iyer springs to mind.

But the thing I think most people (well, the Scooby Gang ;)) will remember about the days of free SMSing is the trend of having entire conversations based on... well, poetry.

And, lucky you, I happen to still have a copy of one of these conversations, between myself and Andrew... some time in April 2000, I assume?

To make it easier, I'll put myself in italics. ;)

Hi Andrew
Where r u?
Wentworth's blue
So's Saru
U r due
4 interview
so get your ass over here or we'll sue
You Andrew

Right now I'm sitting in a chair
If u look hard u'll find me there
I am at home but soon will leave
And come by train, do you believe?

I hope you're having fun at home
As I am on my mobile phone
Alas, u'll soon receive a summons
Oh damn, nothing rhymes with summons!

U think that nothing rhymes with summons?
Then I can brighten up your day
If u think hard u'll realise 'gummons'
Rhymes with it in every way!

How silly - how could I forget?
That in a rhyming couplet
Words do not have to exist
Especially when Andrew is pissed!

U think I'm pissed? Oh thou art wrong
I merely wish to write a song
Of love, and lust and joy and pain
(Oh no, not Dawson's Creek again!)

But u know I luv Dawson's Creek
I fear u think that I'm a freak
Surely  to Neighbours you refer
If that is so then I concur!

There was more, after this, I'm sure, but I seem to have lost those messages (and the fact that I still had a copy of these after more than a year is a miracle in itself), so... lucky you. ;)
