Guitar Showdown
: What Really Happened

USC
ChES has always been involved in school activities in
the school and just this Thursday, the society just
pulled itself out of a frightening predicament to give
the people in USC-TC one of the most entertaining
activities of the TC Days.
The
activity was a guitar showdown and it was the first
ever to be held in the campus during its TC Days. The
activity was suggested to the overall coordinator of
the TC Days, the CEC, by a member of USC ChES, Brod
Jasper James Pareja, who is also the president of
USC-IFSC.
The
supposed mechanics for the showdown was to have
elimination matches and for each match, two
contestants will battle it out in a head-on guitar
playing showdown. The winner of each match will then
proceed to the next round until one player remains
standing. The preparation of the event started a month
before the scheduled date in order to ensure a high
probability of success and to grab a great opportunity
to honor the society and to support the idea of our
brod.
Everything went well during the preparation stage
until the scheduled date when only one contestant, out
of the eight that has registered, arrived with his
guitar on the venue, the Rigney Hall. Thirty minutes
has passed and still, no other contestant has arrived.
So the brods and sis who were facilitating the
activity were left with one contestant and a waiting
crowd jam-packing the Rigney Hall. Just when doom was
about to settle, we all gathered ourselves and started
to make some necessary changes. We made some quick
changes in the mechanics and invited persons in the
audience to fill in the slots of the registered
contestants who didn’t arrive. So instead of head-on
matches, we decided to have one person performing in
the stage at a time. In a matter of minutes, the
guitar showdown was all set with a new and complete
roster of contestants and a new mechanics. After the
showdown, the crowd left satisfied and was given the
entertainment that they expected from the activity.
They also left in awe at the flexibility of USC ChES.
As
the co-chairman of the activity together with Jonathan
Rubillos, it gives us joy and pride to see how we were
able to pull ourselves out of the seemingly
inescapable pit because of the training that we have
that taught us to make initiatives, have teamwork, and
to sacrifice. What happened can almost be considered
unbelievable since most of the organizers and the
runners of the activity were newly accepted members
who were given a big lift from our fifth year brod,
Jasper. The incident is something to be proud of not
only to the organizers of the activity but most of
all, to all of USC ChES. It was really an opportunity
for the members to learn and grow from to become
future leaders.
Surely, the guitar showdown will be held again next
year. And surely, it will be better, and we will be
more prepared. We sure did learn a lot from it. And if
enough effort is being put into it, it could become a
major event during the TC days. Who knows what USC
ChES will achieve in the future? Pretty much like, who
knew that we will be able to come out of such a
frightening predicament during the guitar showdown?
