LionelRay has been collecting Lionel trains
on and off for about 45 years. During the past 18 or so years, he has
been able to put a much greater effort into
locating and buying the trains he likes. However, LionelRay currently
does not have all of the trains that he would like to own and he is always
looking for trains that he does not have or examples that are in
better condition than he already has. LionelRay's collection is primarily from the 'Post-war' period, 1946 through 1964. However, he does have some items from both before, 'Pre-war', and after, 'Modern era', this time period. This collection is made up of 'O' gauge trains. Lionelray would very much like to acquire a set of 'Standard' gauge and 'OO' gauge trains. There is one set from his 'Pre-war' items, those made before 1945, that Ray has a particular fondness for - The Blue Streak. This train set was made in 1938 and is modeled after a streamliner of that era. Because this set is of a different era than the majority of the collection, it is normally displayed Ray's office/computer room rather than the train room. LionelRay, like most collectors, is always trying to improve his collection. One obvious way to improve any collection is to buy examples of items that are not already represented. A second way is to find examples that are in better condition than those currently owned. If you have, or know someone that has, some Lionel trains just sitting around in the attic or basement, Ray may be interested in purchasing them. This can be an opportunity to get some unexpected cash. LionelRay also repairs post-war Lionel trains as a way to help pay for his collecting. LionelRay repairs trains for others in the same manner, and with the same care, that he repairs his own. His repair prices are quite reasonable. He prefers to use original post-war Lionel parts but, unfortunately, these are not always available or the cost is prohibitive. It can also be very time consuming locating these original parts. Most 'repro' parts are as good as the originals. LionelRay occasionally has Lionel Trains for sale. Typically, the trains Ray sells are duplicates of items he already has or they are items that he does not wish to collect. All trains sold by LionelRay have been tested and are in good repair, unless otherwise stated. LionelRay only repairs trains - he does not re-paint trains.
