| BLUES CRASH OUT OF IRISH CUP | |||||||||||||||||||
| Linfield were knocked out of the Irish Cup following a closely fought battle away to Loughgall Lakers. The Blues took the lead early on with a superb volley from striker Billie Simpson from inside the box following a great cross from winger Sasha Birch. Linfield should have scored at least 3 shortly after with efforts from Simpson, Todd and Montgomery comming close. Loughgall bounced back with a ball over the top which caught out the Blues backline and the Loughgall number 8 slotted home their equaliser. With Linfield playing some great football, their next goal was easily goal of the game, Simpson and Todd combined superbly and Todd then took on 2 defenders before putting the Blues ahead for the second time. The Blues then introduced new signing Naomh Larkham who instantly changed the style of the Linfield play, playing a superb ball through to Simpson who scored her second of the night. Loughgall refused to give up the fight and scored two goals in 10 minutes to bring the side even again, their striker was a threat to Linfield all night and with Linfield centre back Melissa McCurdy out with a knee injury the Blues were forced to play their winger Nadene Caldwell at right back were she was superb. Linfield's Sasha Birch suffered a panic attack, and as the Blues has used all their subs, they were forced to play the remainder of the game with 10 players. Loughgall pushed hard in the last 10 minutes and played everything up front trying to snatch a winner, they gained a corner and Linfield Keeper Alex Stephens dropped the ball in the Blues penalty area and Loughgall buried the winner. Linfield had a chance to bring the game to extra time with a brilliant effort from Todd in the dying seconds just going inches wide of the post.
