Josie Lim Cruz was a dietitian before she became an artist. At the University of the Philippines, Math was her Waterloo as a pre-med student. Dietetics was a convenient shift course but art was her real forte. After raising three kids, Josie went back to school, finished her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, cum laude and took postgraduate studies in Fine Arts.

Her paintings are on huge canvases; she paints in the abstract expressionist style. Josie earned the moniker “Mom Josie” since her classmates were as young as her children. Her own kids could not believe that their homebody Mom joined the artists’ mainstream; held quite a number of solo shows and joined many group shows. Josie made art her career and is teaching privately and in school as well; telling those who want to listen: “Work your love and you will love your work!” She curates for her students’ shows, and is fulfilled when some are emboldened to mount that first solo.
