| 27th - Karl Marx is Pop Idol's hero Will Young says he owes his success to Karl Marx. The Pop Idol winner says his thinking taught him to be creative. The former politics student says Marx helped him decide to opt for drama school rather than an office job. "Marx got me where I am. He warned against losing creativity," Will told The Sun. "Earning money is at the forefront of people's minds. "There was a job I could have done at Sony but instead I took out a loan to go to drama school. "I went for what I really wanted." But Will admits he would prefer it if there wasn't a second series of Pop Idol series. "It's selfish but I don't want anyone else having the title," he said. His cover version of The Doors' Light My Fire is out today. Taken from Ananova. For those of you who arent sure, Karl Marx was a Marxist Sociologist (someone who studies society) and believed that the working class where exploited by the ruling class. |

| World Cup Band Battle The Sex Pistol's will vie with Pop Idol Will Young and a host of wannabe World Cup anthems in the quest for this week's number one spot. Twenty-five years after it debuted in the charts, the Pistols remain true to form re-releasing their anti-royal rant God Save the Queen in time for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations this weekend. Young challenge The ageing punk outfit will face stiff competition for the top spot from Pop Idol Will Young's second single, a cover of The Doors' Light My Fire. His debut single, Evergreen/Anything is Possible sold 1.2m copies in its first week. With the World Cup kicking off this weekend, a rash of football anthems are also due for release. Top team Ant and Dec's FA-backed track We're on the Ball is hotly tipped to outstrip the rest, although the Lightening Seeds' Three Lions is already a firm favourite with fans and has taken the number one spot twice before. Other offerings come from Madness star Chas Smash, New Order, the England Boys and 12 Page 3 girls, the Babe Team. Andy Powell, singles manager at HMV, said: "If England perform well and progress through the tournament, it's quite possible that a number of these football singles will shoot up the chart to dominate the top 10 over the coming weeks." | 28th - Will Young plans original tracks for new album Will Young has written four original tracks for his new album which he says aren't "typical pop songs." He has been working with songwriter Cathy Dennis to find the right songs for the debut LP. The Pop Idol winner admits he was worried about being written off as someone who only does cover versions. He tells Heat magazine: "It is a worry but then I know what 's coming up with the album. I suppose I think of the bigger picture. "I've written four songs. The latest one is very European, slightly harking back to the '60s. Cheesy but more tongue in cheek than real cheese - one to listen to in a rowing boat, floating down a river. It's lovely. "I think you should always be conscious of the fact that any job can be short-lived and you should always take steps to make it as long lived as you can. "That's why we haven't released an album straight away. We've taken care to write songs I'm happy with. When we get the right songs, then we'll release the album. It's all about setting up a long-term future." Taken from Ananova. |
