The Suzaku Seishi
Suzaku:
God of Fire, Love, and Konan. The love part is the reason why all the seishi except Mitsukake and Chiriko fall in love with Miaka. Suzaku is the third oldest of the four gods.
Miaka Yuuki:
Priestess of Suzaku and heroine of the Konan version of Universe of Four Gods Sky and Earth She is a fifteen-year old glutton who entered the book because she wanted to please her mom by going to Jonan. She is the third girl to enter the book in order to have her wishes granted. Anyways, her task is to collect all seven of the Suzaku Constellations, Tamahome, Hotohori, Chichiri, Nuriko, Mitsukake, Chiriko, and Tasuki. The three wishes she makes are in this order,
1) Have Yui returned to her after she was devoured by Seiryuu,
2)Seal Seiryuu away, and
3)Save her world.
My own opinion of her: Miaka's not one of my favorite characters for several reasons.
1) She needs too much help to summon Suzaku. For example, she hangs on to Tamahome and the others too much.
2) She's too lovey dovey with Tamahome.
3) Hmm...kind of hard to describe this, but she just doesn't click with me.
4) All the seishi except Chiriko and Mitsukake fall in love with her. I find that kind of stupid.
Tamahome:
Name in the Manga: Xong Gui-Siu
Name in the Anime: Sou Kishuku
Powers: Martial arts and chi blasting.
Age: 17
Seishi symbol: Demon
Constellation: Cancer
Weapon: None. Taiitsukun didn't give him one. (Yeah! Go Taiitsukun! |D)
Additional Info: Tamahome is the most powerful of the Suzaku seishi and the General. He was the first Constellation found and Miaka's love. At first, it seems like all Tamahome cares about is money. However, one later discovers that the only reason why he loves money so much is because of his family. He is the oldest of five children and helps his sick father earn money. Tamahome dies once, but because of Miaka's love for him, he was brought back to life and reincarnated in her world. He was the last seishi to die.
Hotohori:
Name in Manga: Xin Shu
Name in Anime: Saihitei Seishuku
Power: Swordfighting
Age: 18
Seishi symbol: Star
Constellation: Hydra
Weapon: Shinken (Diety's Sword) which is pretty much indestructable. It can deflect almost any chi blow and also act as a regular two-handed sword. He infused his chi with it and gave it to Miaka to replace him not being able to go with her to search for the Shentso-Paos. (or Shinzahos)
Additional Info: Hotohori was the second seishi found and the 4th emperor of Hong-Nan/Konan. He became emperor at fourteen and ruled until he died at the age of eighteen. He is a narcissist, although it gets better throughout the series. One thing you notice is that Hotohori only SDs (super-deforms) once or twice throughout the entire series. He seems too serious to do that, unlike Chichiri or Tasuki. He is married to Houki and has a son, Boushin. However, Hotohori was killed by Nakago before he could see Boushin. Hotohori was the third seishi to be killed.
Nuriko:
Name in Manga: Tiao Liu-Chuan
Name in Anime: Chou Ryuuen
Power: superstrength
Age: 18
Seishi symbol: Willow
Constellation: Hydra
Weapon: The bracers Taiitsukun gave him that give him extra strength.
Additional Info: Nuriko was the 3rd seishi found and was a court lady when they found him. For a while, the others (Tamahome, Hotohori, and Miaka) thought he was a girl. (Especially since he dressed as one) However, they later found that he only crossdressed because he treasured the memory of his late sister, Kang-Lin. (Kouran in the anime) He has an older brother and younger sister. (His sister died) Nuriko was the first to die and was killed by Ashitare. Luckily, he also managed to kill Ashitare. He is in the same group as Hotohori and Tamahome.
Chichiri:
Name in Manga: ??? (Haven't read that far yet...)
Name in Anime: Ri Houjun
Power: polynormal magic, instant teleportation, paralyzing people, and magic he learned from Taiitsukun.
Age: 24
Seishi symbol: Well
Constellation: Gemini
Weapon: His mask which hides his expression, his Kasa (hat) which lets him step through it and instantly teleport anywhere, his Kesa (cloak) for the same thing as his Kasa, his rosary, which recieved the power-up from Taiitsukun and his staff as a weapon. His staff, along with his rosary, can also create a shield.
Additional Info: Chichiri is a wandering monk and the fourth seishi to be found. At first, Miaka referred to him as the "cat guy" because of his smiling mask. He received his scar when he was eighteen. Chichiri, Hikou, and Kouran were three best friends. Chichiri was engaged to Kouran, (I think in the manga it might be Kang-Lan, but that's just a guess) but Hikou liked Kouran. Hikou and Kouran kissed, and Kouran, feeling that she had betrayed Chichiri, broke the engagement. Later on, Chichiri and Hikou fought by the river, but then it flooded. Hikou fell into the river, but Chichiri managed to catch him before he fell. But then, a log hurtled toward Chichiri, and his choice was to either let go or get hit. He let go and Hikou died, but Chichiri's left eye was still injured. When he returned to the village, everyone had drowned. Chichiri was depressed and decided not to let his scar heal so it would honor Hikou. Chichiri wandered for a few years until he was 21. Then, he met Taiitsukun and became her disciple. Chichiri almost always adds "no da" to the end of his sentences. The only exception is when he takes off his mask and is serious. He is one of the two seishi that don't die. I don't feel like being too descriptive about him, so I'll just stop here.
My Own Opinion of Him: Chichiri is one of my favorite characters for several reasons.
1) He is really optimistic and always tries to cheer up the others.
2) Chichiri is really funny and looks cute when he SD's. (Which is about a thirty-forty times each manga. :P
3) He's had a lot of blows in his life, but he's still so strong.
Tasuki:
Name in Manga: Hou Chun-Yu
Name in Anime: Kou Shun'u
Power: Super speed
Age: 17
Seishi symbol: Wing
Constellation: Crater
Weapon: Tasuki has a harisen/tessen that was turned into iron by Taiitsukun. It belonged to his master, but he gave it to Tasuki when he died. (Ok, it was in his will, whatever you call it) His tessen can spit fire when he chants "Rekka Shin'nen."
Additional Info:
Tasuki is the ex-leader of the Mt. Leikakun (Lig?San Mountain)bandits. He is a very cool character who wins second place in the "Most SDs in the Anime" category. (Chichiri wins first!(D ) When Miaka, Nuriko, and Hotohori first meet Tasuki, (who is called Genrou. Huan-Lang in the manga) he claims that his dead boss is Tasuki. Because of this, Miaka and the others go look for the person who has the ability to revive the dead, which leads them to the sixth seishi. However, this was only because he had to take over for his boss and couldn't leave. Luckily, his best friend Kouji (Knei-Gong) offered to take over for him so he could go with Miaka. Tasuki has five older sisters, so his home was dominated by women. Thus his women-hating began. As soon as he was old enough, he ran away to Mt. Leikakun and learned how to become a bandit where he later on meets Miaka. He is probably the most "manly" of the group. Tasuki is with Chichiri and Chiriko for the grouping.
Mitsukake:
Name in Manga: Miao Nioh-An
Name in Anime: Myou Juan
Power: Healing once a day (not on self) and exorcising demons
Age: 22
Seishi Symbol: Rare Cart
Constellation: Corvus
Weapon: It's not really a weapon, but it's the Spirit Water Taiitsukun gave him. It can heal as many people as he wants as long as there's enough water to go around.

Mitsukake was a doctor before he met Miaka and the others. He is quiet and rarely talks. Mitsukake kept to himself pretty much. His closest friend was Chichiri. It is more like his cat, Tamaneko, does the talking for Mitsukake. He had a girlfriend named Shouka (Shao-Huan), but she died a year before he met Miaka. Stricken with grief at his inability to save her, he retreated from the outside world and became a hermit outside of Chang-Hong. Or at least he thought she died, because when Miaka and the others arrived in Chang-Hong, Shouka was the one who had the ability to bring back the dead. Shouka turned out to be possessed by the demon who was bringing the plague onto the village. I won't go into that much detail, but Shouka and Mitsukake made up and Mitsukake freed her from the demon. During the battle between Konan and Kutou, Nakago fired a chi blast at Mitsukake and injured him. Later, Mitsukake was healing the wounded and sick, refusing to stop even when Chichiri begged him to, saying "I'm a doctor. I have to help them. It's my job." Then, he hears a woman crying, "Shouka! Shouka, please, hold on!" That's when he realizes that the baby girl in her arms is the reincarnation of Shouka. Because Shouka doesn't have enough life chi, he gives her and everyone else his. Chichiri tried to stop him, even coming close to physically restraining him. Mitsukake's life chi went into everyone and healed them, even bringing the dead back to life. The soldiers who had died began fighting, but Chichiri ordered them to stop, saying that Mitsukake had given up his life and told them that if they had to fight, fight somewhere else. He was the fourth to die and was with Tamaneko for the group. I feel really sorry for him because he didn't even get to name his own cat! Miaka did. Also, he knew that he hadn't been that much of a help. His last words were: "Chiriko, Nuriko. I wasn't able to help them." (Or something like that.)
Chiriko:
Name in Manga: Wong Tao-Hui
Name in Anime: Oh Dou-Kun
Power: Intelligence. It only appears when his sign appears.
Age: 13
Seishi Symbol: Stretching (If you translate it exactly from Chinese, it stands for "archery")
Constellation: Hydra
Weapon: The scroll he received from Taiitsukun. Miaka uses it to seal Seiryuu away.
Additional Info:
Chiriko is a thirteen-year old child prodigy with an extremely high IQ. He meets the others right after Miaka tries to summon Suzaku and discovers that "Chiriko" was really Amiboshi of the Seiryuu Seven. Chiriko is the youngest of the Suzaku Seven and the second to die. Unfortunately for Chiriko, his power is different than the others. For example, he can't exactly control it, meaning when he gets either frustrated, angry, or scared, his sign vanishes and he becomes a scared little kid. He also knew that that happened and hated himself for it since he couldn't really do anything about it. But in truth, I think he was pretty brave since he knew his faults and tried to fix them. Chiriko was killed indirectly by Miboshi, meaning that Miboshi possessed him and was using him to attack the others. Luckily, or unluckily, depending on how you look at it, Chiriko managed to kill Miboshi but died in the attempt.
My Own Opinion of Him
Chiriko is not weak. He just didn't have time to fully develop his powers and be able to harness them whenever he wanted to. After all, he's four years younger than Tamahome and Tasuki, who are the youngest. If Miaka had arrived a few years later, Chiriko would have been able to mature and use his intelligence whenever he wanted to. After all, all the other seishi had to learn how to use their powers, didn't they? And Chichiri didn't even know how to start using his powers until he was EIGHTEEN! Ok, fine, maybe twenty. XD And Tamahome had to be taught how to fight by Tokaki. Therefore... that could have happened to Chiriko, too. So don't hate the poor kid! He's only thirteen, anyways! <_< And if you think about it, none of the seishi could use their powers when their signs weren't glowing. Therefore, it makes sense that Chiriko's not able to either. Ok fine, they could use some of their powers, but they were at their most powerful when their signs were revealed, which is how it is for Chiriko. ^_^ My belief is that Chiriko's intelligence was just as random as the other seishis' powers used to be. Therefore, (yes, I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm trying to pound this into your head XD) if Chiriko had gotten to live longer (evil Yuu Watase, killing him off at thirteen <_<), his powers would have reached their full potential. ^_^ In other words, he's just like the other Suzaku seishi. :D 'Course this is just my theory. You're welcome to believe anything you want to believe. ^_^
