View of Manhattan from Hoboken waterfront

View of Manhattan from Hoboken waterfront

I took this picture with a cheesy cellphone camera from Sinatra Park in Hoboken on our way back to the PATH train from our friend's house. The original photo was taken on a diagonal to capture as much of the skyline as possible. I've corrected the black and rotation.

Pictures from the Williamsburg Bridge

Pictures taken en route from our old apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn, through Williamsburg and over the Williamsburg Bridge into Manhattan, taken 10/23/04.

I lived in this apartment for over two years, most of that time with Kevin. That's our bedroom window behind Kevin. It faced onto DeKalb Avenue, a busy two-lane street running through Brooklyn. There's a bus shelter not ten steps from that window where you can catch the B38 to downtown Brooklyn and eat very well at Junior's, home of the Most Fabulous Cheesecake and serving an oddly compelling mix of Americana, soul food, and Jewish deli favorites. Try the pastrami sandwiched between two sweet potato latkes with sides of applesauce and boiled greens for a taste sensation, then waddle back onto the bus home again.

Bushwick neighborhood graffiti featuring Pieta imagery

This graffiti is on the side of a grocery store in the neighborhood where we lived.

When Kevin and I decided to start living a healthier lifestyle, we ate at Junior's less often and started taking walks (frequently to restaurants). Our neighborhood isn't very pretty, but it is lively. Our walks took us through Queens and over a couple of the bridges, but most of our walks were through Williamsburg and over the Williamsburg Bridge into Manhattan. Later, we took our bikes the same route.

Winged statue in Freedom Triangle

Freedom Triangle near Broadway and Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn.

This is near Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant, on our way to Williamsburg, but I couldn't say which neighborhood exactly. Below, a tragically unironic trailer sprouts in a still-unhip portion of Bushwick on Myrtle Avenue near Broadway.
