Who may have Familial Mediterranean Fever?

Most people affected by F.M.F. come from Mediterranean origin such as Arabs, Armenians, Turks and Sephardic Jews. Though a sufficient number of cases have occurred in other groups, there should be caution against excluding the diagnosis on the basis of race history.
The disorder is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. It cannot be transmitted in any other way. In 50% of cases there has been no family history of the disorder.
