Servant's Chamber
Poetic Ramblings
What the Pencil Tells the Paper
by Mari Patrice Morrell

Should I write about you?
Should I write about me?
You take up my mind, you see.

When I think to write about me,
I want to write what I feel,
but then it turns into what I feel about you,
how you make me feel.
Then I am again writing about you.

How I feel about me,
turns into how I feel about you,
my thoughts stray, my words change,
and you make my poerty.

If you were with me,
lovely poetry it would be,
but without you it is all love unreturned,
poetry the same,
but the purpose has changed.

It says the things I cannot,
the pencil is braver towards the paper,
than I am towards you.

The paper knows the pencil's thoughts,
my thoughts, but you do not.
