~*~ Chapter 84 ~*~
REDDING, CA –THE ANGEL’S HOUSE – JUL. 27th, 2002 – SATURDAY
Kirstin took the paper with her vows from her purse, sat on the bed and when she was starting to read it, she heard a knock on the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.” Grace answered, already entering the room.
“Oh, hey. Wow, you look incredible!” Kirstin said after looking at Grace, who was wearing a cream dress, no sleeves, and silver jewelry on her dress that met the middle of her breasts. Her hair was pulled up into a messy, but classy bun and her make-up was perfect.
“Well, you chose the dress.”
“That’s right, I did. And I have great taste.” Kirstin smiled big.
“You sure do. But why are you talking about me? Look at you, for Christ’s sake! Get up!” Grace ordered “Oh, my God! You’re gonna be taller than Ashley!” Grace informed.
“I know! Urgh! He’s gonna love that and I’m hating it already! But there were no other shoes to go with the dress.”
“Oh, no, the shoes are perfect, the dress is perfect, the hair, the make-up… Everything!”
“Thank you so much, G. You know most of this is happening because of you, right?”
“Oh, come on. Now you’re just saying that.”
“No, it’s true. You’ve made all of these happen. You’re the perfect maid of honor, but most of all, you’re the perfect best friend.” Kirstin tried hard not to cry.
“Oh, stop it, or else both of us are gonna ruin our make-up!”
“Ok.” Kirstin giggled.
“So… I’m here to give you my maid of honor speech.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yep!”
“I thought you were gonna spare me from that one.”
“No, no, no, no! When you asked me to be your maid of honor, you asked for everything. And I’m here to deliver everything.”
“Ok. Let me hear it, then.” Kirstin and Grace sat on the bed.
“Right.” Grace took a deep breath and looked into Kirstin’s eyes “K, you’re my best friend, and I don’t think there’s any doubt in that. Everyone knows it, we know it and that’s it. I’m never leaving your side, no matter what happens to you. In these years we’ve known each other, you’ve become actually more than my best friend. You’re the sister I never had. You are family. I love you. And I couldn’t have being happier for you than when you said you were definitely marrying Ashley. I was there during your ‘Thursday Guy’ days, during your Tom days, during your Ashley days, during everything, and I can say for sure Ashley is perfect, the right one for you. I’ve never seen two people more perfect for each other than you two. He’s your soul mate and you’re his. And I hope I have what you two have with someone someday. Maybe Mark, who knows?” Grace smiled big, referring to her boyfriend, that was just downstairs, waiting for the ceremony “So, I’m not praying for this marriage to work out, because I know for sure it will. Of course there will be some speed bumps along the way, but your love will make it right. Like it always has. I just wish you happiness in this new page in your life you’re starting to write today.”
“Oh, G.” Kirstin hugged her real tight “Thank you so much.” Kirstin was really making a huge effort not to cry “I can’t cry, but be sure I am on the inside.”
“Silly.” Grace laughed “I can’t cry either, but I’m also crying on the inside.”
“Love you, G.”
“Love you, K.” they pulled back from the hug “That’s not it. I have to give you your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”
“Oh, yeah, that! Totally forgot about those silly things.”
“They are not silly! It’s tradition and everything has to go by the book today!”
“Ok, ok.” Kirstin smiled “Shall we sit again, then?”
“Yes, we shall.” Grace smiled and sat next to her on the bed “My something new is this.” Grace took a camisole out of a bag.
“Wow. That’s… way too sexy, G!”
“I know. And I know you don’t have anything like this, so that’s why I decided to buy it, because you are gonna need it for your honeymoon.”
“Oh, the honeymoon! I’m always forgetting about the honeymoon. But I guess it will indeed work for the honeymoon!” Kirstin giggled as she took the tiny blue and see-through camisole from her friend’s hands “It’s gorgeous. Thanks so much, G.”
“You’re welcome. Now… your something old, something borrowed and something blue is just one thing.”
“Oh, yeah? And what is it?”
“I had no idea what to give you as borrowed, so I went through my stuff and through my mom’s stuff and I ended up finding this, which came in handy, because it’s also old and blue.” Grace took another item from the bag.
“Wow, it’s beautiful!” Kirstin touched the incredible silver bracelet with blue jewelry rocks that Grace was holding.
“I’m glad you liked it. My mom said it was my grandmother’s something new when she got married. I asked her and she let me borrow it to you.”
“Oh, I can’t accept it. It’s too much.”
“No, it’s not. You are going to accept it. I’m just borrowing this for you. Don’t worry, really.”
“Oh, G, thank you so much. It’s perfect!” Grace put the bracelet on Kirstin’s wrist and hugged her friend.
“Good. Now that everything is ready, I should go down to get your bouquet. Gloria asked me to.”
“Ok. Then the wedding can start?”
“But there’s still 20 minutes for the ceremony. You have to be late!”
“G, do you know me at all? I’m not gonna be late.”
“But it’s a wedding! You have to do as the book says.”
“I’m sorry, but that’s the only rule I’m not gonna obey. I can’t be late. And I’m already dying here. I want this to start already.”
“Ok, ok. Wait here then. I’ll be right up.”
