~*~ Chapter 42 ~*~

NEW YORK CITY, NY – HOTEL – JAN. 15TH, 2001

“I’m… I’m sorry.” Kirstin looked down as soon as Ashley pulled away from her kiss “I’m just… I really don’t know what to do, I mean… All this stuff with Tom happened tonight, I really don’t have my emotions sorted out just yet. I don’t know how I’m feeling now. And I really don’t know what I want to do.” Kirstin couldn’t face Ashley. She had run to him the second she knew Tom was cheating on her, she obviously cared about Ashley too much, she might even love him, but she couldn’t kiss him when he was doing everything to make sure she was feeling loved and protected when she most needed to feel like that? What was wrong with her?

Ashley got up from his bed without saying a word, took a look at Kirstin, looked down and got out of the room. Kirstin stayed in bed, crying.

“What?” Erik snapped, opening his door and rubbing his eyes.

“Need to talk.” Ashley said as he entered his friend’s room.

“Alright. I was sleeping, but…” Erik started but got cut off by Ashley.

     “She’s in my room.”

“Who?” Erik frowned and then asked astonished “Kirstin?”

“Yes.” Ashley sat on Erik’s bed.

     “What happened?”

“She got home and found Tom with someone else.”

     “What?” Erik asked incredulous.

“That’s it. She got home and that son of a bitch had another girl with him in her loft.”

“I can not believe this guy! Man...” Erik shook his head.

“I know! How dare he? Kirstin gave nothing but love to that son of a bitch! I tried so hard to be with her and all she ever did was tell me she couldn’t be with me, she loved Tom, Tom didn’t deserve it. I even got punched because of him! And now he goes and cheats on her?”

“I know! The nerves of that guy!”

“Stupid waiter boy! Who does he think he is?” Ashley punched the mattress.

“Ash, chill. You can’t act like that. Did Kirstin say anything about what you said earlier?”

“No… I mean… She is in pain. She has this stomach problem and whenever she’s under a lot of stress, it burns. So, I just got her medicine and now she’s in my bed. And I think I’ve confused her even more.” Ashley looked down and shook his head.

     “Why do you say that?”

“Because I couldn’t help myself! I gave her the medicine and then we stared at each other and I was feeling so good taking care of her. That’s all I want. Her to come running to me whenever she has a problem. I want her to know I’m always gonna help her, I’m always gonna be here, I’m always gonna take care of her. No matter what. And when she showed up at my door crying… I don’t know… I wanted to take her in my arms and tell everything would be fine, that I loved her and she would get over that. But I couldn’t say I loved her. So, I almost kissed her. I mean, I tried to, but when I was an inch from her lips, she turned her head away and kissed me on the cheek.”

     “Why?”

“I don’t know! She said she’s confused. She said she doesn’t know what to do or how to feel at this moment.”

“Man, I don’t know, but this girl is really messed up! Come on! She sees her future husband with a girl and comes running right to you!”

“I’m her only friend in town. Grace’s out with the baseball guy.”

“Still, Ashley! You told her all those things before she went home, then she comes back to you when she sees the waiter boy with a girl and doesn’t expect you to kiss her? I know I’d do the same thing you did! And she should know that too!”

“I know! I know!” Ashley put both his hands on his face and shook it “But I understand her. I’m feeling just as confused. Well… not just as confused, but I’m pretty confused! I love her, but she’s not really her right now. She’s in pain, she’s hurt, and she doesn’t know what she wants. And I don’t want her like that. I want her when she sees she’s everything to me and she’ll always be.”

“Ash, this girl is messed up...”

“You said that already.” Ashley cut him off.

“I know, but listen. She’s messed up, I know it and you know it too. So, what you really have to do know is tell her, make her see that you really love her. That you have always loved her, no matter what. Just don’t let her escape. Just don’t come running to my room. Face her. Don’t let her go without a fight. If you don’t show her your feelings for real, you’ll end up loosing her for another waiter boy.”

“But how? I already told her what I feel about her.”

“You can’t tell her. You gotta show her, Ash! Stop being such a teenager. Teenagers do that! Grown ups show their feelings!”

     “Hm…”

     “Hm what? Do something!”

“You really think so?” Ashley asked.

“Yeah! Stop being a 14-year-old! I can’t even stand you talking about this girl anymore! Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something!”

     “But what?” Ashley frowned.

“I don’t know! You know the girl! Do something you know she’ll like.”

     “Hm…”

“No hms… Go! Get out of here and go.” Erik pulled him up from the bed and opened the door so he could get out.

     “Ok. I’ll do it.”

“Go then.” Erik motioned for Ashley to get in his room.

Ashley took a deep breath, looked behind him, where Erik was, took another deep breath looking at his room’s door and opened it. He headed straight to the bed, his heart was biting really rapidly. He saw the bed and Kirstin in it. He sat by her side. She was looking the other way.

“K?” he asked, brushing her hair. He got nothing. He looked up and saw she was sleeping “Great!” he said, getting up.
