NEW YORK CITY, NY – HOTEL – JAN. 15TH, 2001
“Ouch!” Kirstin exclaimed and leaned on a couch to get more balance.
“What’s the problem?” Ashley asked and then looked at where her hand was “You still have that stomach pains you had during high school?” Ashley frowned and helped her sit on the bed.
“Yeah…” Kirstin said, pain clearly on her face.
“Where’s your medicine?” Ashley said, already going through Kirstin’s purse.
“No, it’s not there. I left it at home.”
“Oh… but I thought you had that checked.”
“I did, but the doctor said it will never go away.”
“But you only have them when something really stressful happens.”
“Yeah…” Kirstin looked at Ashley serious.
“You’re… I didn’t… cause you that, did I?” Ashley was worried.
“No, Ashley. I already told you I’m not like this because of you.”
“Then, what is it? You were fine when…” Ashley abruptly stood up “What did Tom do?” he really did knew her.
“I…” Kirstin started crying again “I went home and then I heard him on the showers…” Kirstin started crying even more “So I decided to stay on the living room, because I had a lot to think about what you have… you know?” Kirstin looked at Ashley and he nodded, so she continued “So I was thinking and all, then the shower stopped and I went up to see him. When he opened the door…” Kirstin put both her hands on her face and couldn’t continue.
“K… baby… look at me.” Ashley pulled her chin up “K, it’s me. Talk to me.” he put all his effort on smiling. He couldn’t smile, he was feeling really bad seeing Kirstin like that.
“Tom was…” Kirstin started but didn’t know if she could continue. She looked at Ashley and he had a smile on that encouraged her to carry on “He had a blonde girl with him and they were both naked.”
“Ok, where are your car keys?” Ashley stood up, really angry and serious, going through Kirstin’s purse.
“Why you need my car keys?” Kirstin stood by him, but fell again on the bed because of her stomachaches “Ouch.”
“K, you have to stay seated. And I have to go deal with this guy.”
“Ash, please, don’t.” Kirstin pleaded “I asked him to leave already. He probably might not even be there anymore.”
“I seriously doubt this guy will just leave like that.” when Ashley said that, Kirstin realized it wouldn’t really be easy to get away from Tom. He was just too persistent.
“No, Ash. Just don’t do that.”
“I have to, K. I already told you I’m always gonna protect you, no matter what. No matter what you ask me.” Ashley paced around the room.
“Ash, really, please, sit here.” Kirstin patted the mattress and Ashley sat by her “I don’t need you punching him right now.” Kirstin said, still crying.
“Then what do you want me to do? Just say it and I’ll do it.”
“I need you by my side right now. Like you have always been. I need you close to me.” Kirstin said, crying even more.
“Are you sure that’s what you want? Because I can go right now and… kill that waiter boy for doing that to you.”
“Ash, really. Let me just have you by my side now.” Kirstin looked at him kindly.
“Ok. Then I’ll stay with you. As long as you want me to.” Ashley brushed a lock of hair away from her face. After placing it by her ear, he rubbed his thumb on her chin. She closed her eyes as he did so “K, lay down. You need to. And if you want, I can go downstairs and buy you the stomach medicine. They have a drugstore down here.”
“Could you really do me that? Because I could really use my medicine. It’s really painful.”
“I’ll be right back. Do you still take the same drug?”
“Yeah. You remember the name?” Kirstin asked astonished.
“Yeah, of course I do.” Ashley smiled sweetly at her “Now, just lay down here.” Ashley helped her lay down and covered her with a blanket “I’ll be right back, ok?”
“Yes.” Kirstin said as Ashley kissed her lightly on the forehead “Ash.” she said when he was heading to the door. He turned around to look at her “Thank you.” she said.
“I’ll be right back.” he smiled and closed the door behind him.
Kirstin laid on Ashley’s bed, looking at the ceiling. Indeed her stomachache was really painful. She closed her eyes. What had happened? Why had Tom cheated on her? He seemed so much in love with her, with all his jealousy and always fighting for her. Why had he cheated on her then? She closed her eyes even harder. Now, not only she had the stomachache to worry about, she also had a strong headache. She pressed her belly and rubbed her head. When it seemed to have passed 3 minutes, she heard the door being opened and closed. She slowly opened her eyes to see Ashley getting a bottle of water out of the mini-fridge, pouring some on a glass, taking a pill out of the tablet and heading to bed.
“Here.” he smiled and placed the pill in Kirstin’s hand.
Kirstin made an effort to pull herself up in bed. She took the glass off of Ashley’s hand and then swallowed the pill.
“Thanks.” she said laying again in the bed.
“Does it still hurt?” Ashley asked, placing the glass on the nightstand.
“Yeah. And now my head hurts too.” Kirstin had pain clearly on her face.
“Oh, I have a headache pill somewhere…” Ashley started to look around.
“Ash…” Kirstin said and put her hand on his
thigh “That’s alright. Don’t worry about the headache. It
will go away as soon as the stomachache does.” she smiled at him and
he did the same. They stayed like that for a while, until Ashley got closer
to Kirstin to place a lock of her hair behind her ear. When he did it, she
grabbed his hand gently and kissed it. She had Ashley’s wrist on her
hand and she could feel his pulse. His heart was biting really rapidly. Kirstin’s
was too. They didn’t break the eye contact. Ashley decided to get closer.
So, very slowly, he was getting closer and closer from Kirstin’s face.
When he was almost touching her lips, she closed her eyes, turned her face
and kissed Ashley on the cheeks.
