~*~ Chapter 26 ~*~
NEW YORK CITY, NY – Yankee Stadium – Jan. 12th, 2002 – Saturday
Kirstin and Grace were heading to their seats. When Kirstin was at Grace’s, she called Ashley to inform she was gonna be at the game so they’d try to meet there.
“Wow. We have dugout seats. How special are we?” Grace was all excited.
“Judging we got invited by the players, I’d say we are pretty special.”
“Yes, we are!” Grace was all proud of herself.
When they were almost there, Kirstin heard her name being called. She turned to find who was calling her, but couldn’t find anyone in that crowd. There were too many people there.
“Who’s calling me?” Kirstin asked Grace to help her. Both girls scanned the place.
“Oh, there. It’s Ashley.” Grace pointed out to where Ashley was.
“Where?” Kirstin couldn’t find him.
“There. He’s coming. Let’s stay here.”
“Oh, I can see him now.” Kirstin said when Ashley was almost there.
“Hey, K.” Ashley greeted her kissing her on the cheek.
“Hey, Ash.” Kirstin smiled “You remember Grace, right?”
“Yeah, of course. How are you, Grace?” Ashley kissed her on the cheek too.
“Good. What about you?”
“Good too. So, where are your seats?” Ashley asked both girls.
“Dugout.” Grace informed with a big smile on.
“No way! You got dugout tickets? We weren't even special enough to get dug out tickets”
“Well, we are more important than you are.” Kirstin played with him.
“I can see that.” he grinned “But seriously, how did you get those? Did Tom got those for you because of the sponsoring thing?”
“No. Tom is not even coming.”
“Yeah, we got those from baseball players we met yesterday at Luna.” Grace informed.
“Oh… which ones?”
“Mark Mulder and Barry Zito.” Grace told him.
“Nice. And you met them there and they offered you tickets? Just like that?”
“Actually, Grace hooked up with Mark Mulder.” Kirstin smiled at her friend.
“And Kirstin talked all night with Barry Zito, so… we got us both tickets. And Tom was left without.” Grace giggled.
“And where’s the rest of the band?” Kirstin asked Ashley.
“Oh, they are there.” Ashley pointed out to the guys. They were sitting at the front row.
“Well, you got front row. They’re not bad.” Grace told him.
“Yeah, but it’s no dugout.” Ashley sounded sad.
“Sorry.” Kirstin said and looked to where the other band members were “Where’s Hailey?”
“Oh, Hailey… She… She is not… she had to…” Ashley didn’t know what to say but the truth “She broke up with me.” he looked down.
“What?” Kirstin and Grace said together. Ashley was surprise that even Grace knew about his relationship with Hailey.
“Yeah, well… she said she met someone else.” Ashley looked down again. Kirstin was confused. They were together 2 weeks ago and she sounded more in love with Ashley than him with her.
“If you excuse me, I’ll go look for our seats, K.” sensing the tension, Grace excused herself and got a nod from Kirstin.
“But… you were fine two weeks ago! How… why… what happened?”
“I don’t know. A week ago she came home from a shooting in Canada and was really weird. The next day she said we had to talk and she ended things up with me telling she was moving to Canada and that she had met a male model there.”
“Wow, that’s just… bizarre. I mean, you two looked so much in love and… wow. I just don’t know what to say.”
“Yeah, I was surprised too, because it happened all of a sudden. I was just like you are now a week ago. Now I’m fine. It’s for the best. She got on my nerves sometimes.”
“Well, I can imagine that. Hailey is no picnic, but it seemed like you really cared about each other.”
“I really liked her, but now… not so much.” Ashley managed a small grin.
“Wow.” Kirstin was still speechless “I’m sorry.” she didn’t know what else to say.
“Nah, that’s fine.” Ashley smiled weakly and looked at her finger “I can see you’re still with Tom.” he pointed to the ring on her finger.
“Oh…” she looked at her ring “Yeah, I’m with him.”
“Is everything fine between you two?”
“Yeah. We’re good.” Kirstin looked down.
“Really?”
“Yeah. Why you ask?” she looked up at him.
“It’s just that… Oh, nothing.”
“No, what?”
“It doesn’t look like you’re really happy about it.”
“That’s not true. I am really happy about it. We set the date already and the details are all being taking care of.”
“Oh, you set the date?” Ashley felt upset.
“Yeah. April 15th.”
“Oh, it’s soon.”
“Yes.” they said nothing for a while. She then continued “Listen, I gotta go to my place, Grace’s waiting. But we’re still hanging out after the game, right?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Good. Then I’ll call you after, ok?”
“Yeah, ok.” Kirstin kissed him on the cheeks, smiled and gave her back to him, heading to her seat.
Getting to their seats, Grace was going through her purse.
“What are you looking for?” Kirstin asked while sitting on her seat.
“My lipstick. Can’t find it. Do you have one?”
“Yeah, right. I always have lipstick on my purse.” Kirstin joked.
“Oh, yeah. Forgot you don’t believe in make-up.”
“It’s not that I don’t believe in it, I just hate it, that’s all.”
“Yeah, ok. Oh, Mark and Barry already came here to check on us.”
“Really?” Kirstin got excited.
“Yeah.”
“What about you and Mark?”
“We kissed.”
“Nice.”
“Yeah. He’s gorgeous, isn’t he?”
“Yes, he is.” Kirstin smiled and turned to where Ashley was. He was sitting with the other band members, talking. He looked so cute when he was wearing a cap.
“So… Ashley and Hailey broke up, huh? What about that?”
“Yeah… I don’t know… He asked if everything was fine between me and Tom.”
“What did you say?”
“Yes. And that we set the date for the wedding already.”
“And, what about him?”
“Seemed a little upset.”
“Really?”
“Really.” Kirstin looked down and played with her ring.
“Poor guy. Got dumped by a whore.”
“Yeah…” Kirstin was still playing with her ring “Where’s Barry?” she looked out on the field.
“They were going to the changing room. They still had their regular clothes on. He asked about you.” Grace smirked.
“Really? What did he say?” Kirstin smirked too.
“He asked if you weren’t coming and where were you. I said you were talking to your friend and you’d be here soon.”
“Oh, ok.” she smiled and played again with her ring.

“Ash? Hello? Ashley?” Dan called out his friend’s name.
“Yes!” Ashley jumped on his seat.
“What’s wrong, man?” Erik, who was sitting on his right side, asked.
“Everything?” Ashley let a small grin show.
“What?” Dan, who was sitting on his other side, asked.
“Kirstin, huh?” Erik said. Trevor and Jacob were out to buy sodas.
“Yeah.” Ashley just looked down.
“What happened? What did she say?” Erik asked, looking worried at his friend.
“She set the date.”
“For what?” Dan was confused.
“For what? For her stupid wedding with that stupid waiter boy!” Ashley got angry and raised his voice.
“Chill, Ash.” Dan didn’t know what to say to him.
“You know that’d happen sooner or later, bro. She’s engaged! That would happen, it’s no surprise.” Erik was being more realistic.
“Yeah, but I didn’t know it would be this soon! They have been engaged for what? Not even a month yet and they already set stupid the date!”
“When is it?” Dan asked.
“April 15th.”
“Yeah, that’s soon.” Dan patted his friend’s back.
“I don’t know what to do, I mean... There’s nothing I can do.”
“I really don’t think there is. Sorry, man” Erik said.
“Did you tell her about Hailey already?” Dan asked.
“Yeah.”
“What did she say?”
“Nothing. She sounded surprise though. Said she thought we were in love.”
“But you were in love. It’s just Hailey that didn’t deserve you.” Dan defended his friend.
“Not really.” Ashley said.
“Not really what?” Erik was confused.
“I wasn’t really in love with Hailey. I liked her a lot, but I don’t think I loved her.”
“I didn’t know that.” Dan sounded surprise.
“And where’s Kirstin?” Erik asked.
“She got dugout seats from a player she met last night.”
“Wow. This girl goes around, huh?” Erik joked.
“Don’t say that!” Ashley got really angry and defended Kirstin.
“Sorry! Jeez!” Erik was taken off guard.
“Is that her?” Dan pointed out to a girl standing up in front of a baseball player.
“Yeah…” Ashley frowned.
“Doesn’t she look too close to that dude she just met last night?” Dan asked as he saw Barry and Kirstin at the dugout area. Ashley didn’t say anything. He just observed. Barry was playing with Kirstin’s hair and she was giggling and playfully hitting him.
“Did she come alone?” Erik asked.
“No. Her friend came with her.” Ashley asked, not leaving his eyes from Kirstin and Barry.
“Where’s the other chick?” Erik asked again.
“I don’t know. She’s probably out with the other player. They hooked up last night.” Ashley informed.
“And have Kirstin hooked up with that dude there?”
“No! She couldn’t have! She’s marrying Tom.” Ashley defended her.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m sure!” Ashley snapped, but actually he wasn’t so sure about it. ‘What the hell is going on there?’ he wondered.
~*~*~*~*~*~
“So, we’re going out later, aren’t we?” Barry was being the nicest guy on Earth trying to win Kirstin’s heart. He knew pretty well she was engaged, but didn’t seem to care about it. Actually, he seemed to be more interested in her because of it.
“I told you I have plans with my friend after the game.” Kirstin was trying to give in to temptation. She knew Barry was just trying to play with her. She knew he was aware of the fact she was engaged, but she was falling into his trap just like a little mouse. And she knew she was, but there was nothing she could do about it. Barry’s eyes had the effect of hypnotizing her. She couldn’t fight it back. But she was trying her hardest, because she knew Ashley was there and was probably checking out on her. What if he said something to Tom? She couldn’t let anything happen.
“Oh, come on, Kirstin. Lose him! I know for a fact you’ll have more fun with me.” Barry smiled.
“I really can’t lose him.” she smirked “I already planned this before I even met you.”
“Well, there’s a reason for you to cancel it. You can say to him you’ve met the man of your dreams and can’t go out with him tonight. If he’s your friend, I’m sure he’ll understand.” Barry got closer to her and let his hand run through her soft hair.
“No, I…” she closed her eyes when she felt his hand massaging her hair “I can’t. Sorry.” she still had her eyes closed when he took his hand off her hair.
“I can’t accept it.” Barry just wouldn’t give in.
“I’m sorry… I’ll try to make up to you.” Kirstin looked deeply into his eyes.
“Really?” Barry sounded interested in that proposal.
“If it’s possible, sure, why not?” Kirstin grinned.
“I am thinking of one thing right now that you could do.” Barry had a devilish smile on.
“Oh yeah?” Kirstin asked and he nodded “And what is that?” Barry got closer to her face and trailed to her lips.
