~*~ Chapter 25 ~*~

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Kirstin and Tom’s Loft – Jan. 12th, 2002 – Saturday

Kirstin woke to the sound of her cell phone ringing. She searched for the phone and found it inside her purse, next to her nightstand.

“Hello?” she looked at the clock that read 8:45 a.m.

“Can I please talk to Kirstin?” the male voice on the other side asked.

“Who is this?” she was confused. She looked at the other side of the bed and saw Tom sleeping.

     “It’s Barry Zito.”

“Oh, hi.” she said sitting up.

“Sorry, did I wake you up?”

     “Well, yeah, but that’s ok.”

“Sorry, it’s just that I’m calling you to let you know I’ve got your tickets.”

“Oh.” Kirstin had forgotten about the game.

     “You’re still coming, right?”

     “I don’t know, I…”

“You have to come! You said you’d come. And your friends are coming too. Your boyband friend and the girl from yesterday.”

“Yeah, I know.” she looked at Tom sleeping and continued “Ok, I’ll go.”

“Great! So here is what you do. When you get to the Yankees Stadium, go to where they sell the tickets. There, you’ll say your name and your friend’s name and they’ll go through the guest list and see your name there and you’ll get free access.”

“Ok. What time is it again?”

     “The game starts at 11.”

“Ok. Then I’ll meet you there.”

“Ok. I’m so happy you’re coming.”

“I’m happy too, but I gotta go now. We’ll talk later.”

     “Ok. Bye.”

When she got out of her cell, Tom stretched. When he opened his eyes, he smiled to her.

     “Hey!” he said kindly.

“Hey.” she said and he sat up next to her and kissed her on the forehead.

“Grace told me you got really drunk yesterday.”

“Yeah… When did you talk to Grace?”

“Yesterday, when I got here. She’s sleeping on our couch.”

     “No way!”

“Yes. She drove you here, put you to bed, went to her place, got her clothes and crashed here.”

     “Oh, man.”

     “Yeah, she’s a really good friend, K.”

“Yeah, I know. Poor girl. Let me go wake her up.”

“No, let her sleep.” Tom grabbed Kirstin’s wrist when she was getting up from the bed.

“She can’t. We have to go the baseball game in a few hours.”

     “Baseball game?” Tom frowned.

“Yeah. We’re going to the charity game.”

“You got tickets?” Tom got excited, he thought that way he’d go too. And Kirstin couldn’t say Barry Zito invited her.

“Grace did. From the guy from last night. But it’s just for us two.”

     “Oh…” Tom got sad.

“Sorry, baby.” Kirstin felt bad. She was already doing something wrong and she was hurting Tom.

“Nah, it’s ok. So you girls go and have fun. I think I’ll sleep until the afternoon. I’m beat.”

“What time did you get here?”

“I think it was around 6.”

     “6 a.m.?” Kirstin was surprised.

     “Yeah.”

“Wow. Then do get some sleep. I’ll get my clothes and go to Grace’s so we can change there, alright?”

     “Ok. Have a nice game.”

     “Thanks. Have a nice nap.”

     “Thanks.” Tom said.

Kirstin bent over to kiss him on the mouth, got her cell phone, some clothes from the closet and headed downstairs. She just then realized she still had the clothes from the night before on.

When she got downstairs, she saw her best friend sleeping on the couch. She smiled and headed to wake her friend up. She lightly touched Grace’s head. Grace stretched.

“Good morning.” Kirstin said before her friend even opened her eyes.

“Hey. Are you feeling ok?” Grace opened her eyes and sat up.

“Yeah. And thanks for everything about last night. And sorry about everything too.”

“Nah, don’t worry. But I got worried. I’ve seen you drunk before, but never that drunk. You were talking nonsense about Tom and…”

“Sh! He’s upstairs.” she said in a low tone of voice “Listen, let’s just go to your place so we can change for the game and talk better.”

     “Ok.”

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Grace’s apartment – Same day

The ride was quiet. Grace was sleeping most of the time anyway.

When they entered Grace’s apartment, she was already asking.

“So… what happened yesterday that you totally flipped?”

     “I don’t know…” they got to Grace’s bedroom.

“You said you weren´t sure about Tom!” Grace was incredulous.

“I know, I know.” Kirstin shook her head and sat on her friend’s bed “I mean, I don’t know what I was thinking. But it felt good, you know? The guy was flirting with me and I was feeling alive!”

“Alive how?” Grace was going through some of her clothes.

     “I don’t know… Like… I’ve been with Tom for a year now. I think I miss being with other guys. I’m just… confused, that’s it. I’m totally confused.”

“I can see that. Listen, K.” Grace sat by her side on the bed “I know it’s normal to have your doubts. I know I would if I were in your position. I’m not judging you here, I don’t wanna give you a lesson on relationship or anything like that. The best thing I can say to you now is… Go to this game, now that you are not drunk, see if you really feel something for Barry, the slightest it may be, pay attention to your feelings and...”

     “Ashley is gonna be there.”

     “What?” Grace was surprised.

“Ashley is gonna be there too!” Kirstin fell down on the bed.

“Oh my God!” Grace was getting worried. Then she thought better “No, that’s ok. That’s even better.”

“Better? How can that be better?” Kirstin sat up.

“I don’t know! But it has to be better.”

     “I can’t see how!”

“No, it’s like… now you’ll have two tests you’re gonna have to get through to see if you really wanna be by Tom’s side.”

“What do you mean by two tests?”

“See if you feel something for Barry, a guy you just met. And then see if you feel something for Ashley. Oh, wait. I know you feel something for Ashley.” Kirstin had talked to Grace about her and Ashley’s kiss in Redding “Oh my God, Kirstin! Why are you getting married?”

“I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know! Please, don’t make this even harder for me! Please, please, please!”

“No, that’s ok. What you have for Ashley are old feelings. Today he’s probably gonna be with that cheerleader of his and you’ll forget him. You’ll see. You’ll pass both tests and will come home with Tom and you’ll have wild sex tonight.” Grace was trying to cheer her friend up.

“I don’t know. I don’t know.” Kirstin was really messed up.

“Listen to me. I know this will happen. Tomorrow you’re gonna be trying to tell me about your wild night with Tom and I’m gonna be trying not to listen to it.” Grace grinned and Kirstin was able to do the same.

     “Really? You really think so?”

“I know so! I know you love Tom and today is gonna be your test, so you can know that for sure too.”

     “Oh, let’s hope so.”

“Now get up and get yourself dressed. You have some tests to do.” Grace offered her friend a hand to get up but it wasn’t necessary.

“Ok!” Kirstin got up all excited “Let’s go!”
