Background of the Project: In 2004, Life 4 Water, Inc. and Hope for Change, Inc. implemented a level II water project in Barangay Tangclao, Municipality of Poona-Piagapo, Province of Lanao del Norte in the Philippines with funding assistance from Green Mindanao Association, Inc.
During the visit of Green Mindanao at the project site to evaluate the water completed project, through Life 4 Water, the people expressed their needs of latrines.
The Project Area Barangay Tangclao, a marginalized rural Muslim-Maranaw community, is in the process of total rehabilitation from the damages of the All-out War declared by the government of the Republic of the Philippines against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The area was one of major areas in the Province of Lanao del Norte where heavy fightings between government forces and the MILF took place. Almost all the houses in the area were burned to the ground by the government troops in pursuits of the rebels because the residents were suspected of being allies of MILF rebels.
The Latrines Through the generosity of Green Mindanao Association, 3 units of duplex latrines were built in Tanglcao. Although the number of latrines would not suffice to the needs of about 300 population today, it is, however, a good start to rebuild the community from the ruins of war.
Feedback Completed in September 2005, the community headed by its barangay chairman, Baryo Salim Andang, expressed their deepest gratitudes to Life 4 Water and Green Mindanao association for the generosity they have extended to their place.. They really appreciated the courage of these organizations who, being Christians, didn't hesitate to help a poor Maranaw community such as theirs. They look forward to seeing Life 4 Water and Green Mindanao in the future. |
