| It seemed like a short time that she was backstage... after all the chaos was over and the ambulance was about to leave. But she knew that she would feel like she was laying on that well walked floor for a very long time in her memories of the day. But all of that wasn't important. For now, she had her precious child, and all was right with the world again, at least in her heart. Before she knew it, the ride was over and she and her baby were being wheeled through the new chaos of the emergency room. She tuned it all out, her eyes never leaving the beautiful sight of her sleeping son within her arms. In no time at all, she was in the middle of a swarm of nurses and doctors, poking and proding. Yet still the smile never left her face. Elation was an emotion she had never truely understood until then. She knew it from the love she felt for the tiny one she'd bore. Every tiny stretch and yawn was like a new world awakening unto her. She wondered at how her heart seemed to continue to open and expand, a never-ending chasm filled with naught but love for this child... her son. It made her heart ache with the amount of love she held, an emotion she was almost sure she had forgotten how to feel after... after David was taken from her. The next day, she was awakened gently by a soft voice. A warm smile from a nurse was the first thing she saw. "Feeding time again Mom. He's a hungry one I bet by the way he's sucking on that fist of his. Such a cutie!" The nurse cooed handing Lauren the child. She smiled at the helpful woman, beaming with the compliment so easily handed out. 'He is a cutie. Isn't he?!' She thought. As she was nursing him, she picked up the phone, dialing her sister once more. "Hey, it's me... or rather us I should say." Lauren smiled down at her son. "Hey! How is he? Oh... I so much want to see him! I can't believe you went and had him without me!" Daphne whined. "Yeah, right, like I had a choice!" Lauren chuckled. "I know... but I wanted to be there. I'm so mad at myself for being gone. You know, sometimes I hate my job!" Daphne complained, making Lauren grin. "You do not. Besides... you get to have an exclusive. First interview with the only known force that can stop a Hanson concert... My son!" She crowed. They laughed together. "So... when are you comming to get us out of here? We want to come home. We're tired of hospital vibes. We need some peace and quiet!" Lauren asked. "I asked the nurse last night when my call was being transfered to your room. She told me that you can leave just as soon as the doctors release both of you. You know I'll be there with bells on! Before visiting hours even!" Daphne promised. "So you don't mind that we woke you before the chickens even?" Lauren teased, knowing her sister had had a late night. "For you and the little prince?! Anything! I would never mind!" Daphne swore. "Good, because I'm more then ready to leave here. But you can go back to sleep for a bit Auntie Daphne..." "Auntie Daphne... I like that!" Daphne interrupted. Lauren smiled at her sisters exhuberence. "We can wait until visiting hours for you to get us. Nine o'clock sharp. And don't forget to get our bag from the trunk of my car! You still have the extra set of keys I gave you don't you?" Lauren checked. "Yuppers." Daphne acknowledged. "Good. I"ll pay you back for the cab too." Lauren promised. "Don't be silly! That's what sisters are for. Now you two try to get some rest. I'll see you in a few hours." Daphne instructed. "We can try. Thank you so much Daph... I love you, ya know?" Lauren's soft voice strained. "I know. I love you too Sis. Bye now." Daphne told her. "Bye." Lauren returned, then gently lay the phone back in it's cradle. It was the start of a beautiful new day. |
