| Visiting hours had barely begun when a flurry of gifts and flowers danced into the dull hospital room. Instantly, it was bright and cheerful. "Daphne has arrived! Now where is that darling nephew of mine!? I simply must hold him or I'll just die!" The large boquette asked. Lauren laughed. "Well get rid of that stuff and come on over here Auntie, somebody's waiting to meet you!" Lauren urged. A chair was soon laden with riches and the two sisters sat on the bed, cooing at the new arrival. The handsome young lad held a spell over the women and they lost track of all time as they discussed his future as the president. "So... when do you get out of this dungeon?" Daphne asked as she handed a sleepy babe back to his mommy. "As soon as his doctor checks him out, I've been released as of early this morning, but his doctor had an emergency so it may be a while." She shrugged. "Well, I'll sit with you until she comes in. I took the day off just so we can have a bit of peace and quiet to take this little guy home." Daphne said softly as she smoothed a hand over her nephews soft little fuzzy head. He gave a big yawn and stretched making both the women watching over him sigh with a smile. There was a commotion in the hallway and Lauren assumed it was the clatter and bustling of the lunch trolly. She thought nothing more of it until she heard raised voices. "Sir! Sir! Sir you can't go in there! You're not family, you're not allowed!" "How do you know? Of course I'm family! Why else would I be visiting?!" "Mr. Hanson sir, I know who you are and I know all about what happened last night!" There was a sudden silence then a quieter voice was heard. "I'll go in and ask if she would like to see you. I'm afraid if she refuses, I'll have to ask you to leave. I'm sorry, but those are the rules." "I understand. I'm sorry for making trouble, I just wanted to see them is all." An appologetic voice sounded. Then there was a nurse standing in the doorway, an unsure look upon her face asking the question she'd yet to utter. Lauren just nodded, a little confused. The nurse slipped back out in the blink of an eye and was soon replaced with a silhouette of a broadshouldered man, the lights of the hall obscureing his face for a moment until he stepped into the room, and into the sun. The daylight shone upon him like the light of heaven itself as it reflected off his golden hair like a halo. His smile wide and endearing as it reached all the way up to his eyes. He carried a large basket, laden with wrapped gifts in pastel hues in one hand, and a modest bunch of what looked to be wild flowers in the other. She smiled back at him, her first thought of recognition being the man that helped her the night before. Then true recognition set in. It was none other then Zac Hanson himself! How had she missed that the night before?! She mentally slapped herself for her incredulous look, then regained her composure. She summed it up to having more important things to occupi her last night then to gawk at celebrities. His quiet nervous chuckle ushered him into the room and he set the basket aside upon a table. As Lauren's hands were occupied with the child, he handed the flowers to the other woman. "I'm sure these need water. I picked them quite some time ago and I think they are starting to wilt." He explained with a chagrinned look. She laughed softly and took them, leaving the room and leaving the two alone. "So..." He sighed, his nervous feet shuffling as he peered down at the sleeping babe. "So..." Lauren replied, not knowing anymore what to say then he did. He braved a closer look at the boy, comming to the side of the bed and looking down into the mothers arms. "He's awful cute." Zac stated. "Thank y ou." Lauren replied, still at a loss for words. "Well, it's true." Zac shrugged, another nervous chuckle escapeing him. She joined him in that then felt brave and ventured a bit further into the conversation. "This is awkward isn't it?" She said, her smile inviting and doing wonders to ease the tention. He let out a heavy breath, his laugh comming out soft and real this time to match his smile as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah!" He laughed again a bit, feeling the effects of releasing the tention and feeling drained and more at ease, he sat in the chair beside the bed. Their smiles meeting. It was the start of a beautiful conversation. And much more... |
