There was a melee of confusion about her but she was far too focused now to let any of it interfere with her. Diana called some name and instructed somebody standing on the other side of the room to take the children to the bus. Lauren hadn't even realized there were children in the room. Diana again called out, this time for towels, water and string. Lauren let the words slide over her mind, let them drift by like leaves on the water. They weren't of her concern. Her job was to breathe, and to bring a new life into the world, as crazy and wild as it was. The pains were comming faster and harder now. It was too hard to keep track of where one stopped and where another began. She reached for Dianas hand, a small comfort to see her through the big pain. Grasping, she  latched onto a large rough hand, and felt both of Diana's minister to her. One wiping her brow, the other laying her back gently against a warm lap.

"Hand me your knife, when Dad brings me the alcohol, I'll sterilize it some." She said softly to the owner of the lap, and apparently the hand. With their free hand Diana was handed the knife.
"You look like you could use a sip of water. It'll help your dry throat and calm you." Diana cooed soothingly. She looked above Lauren's head to the owner of the hand Lauren was holding. Diana got up and again knelt near Lauren, this time at her feet. Then a raspy hand smoothed over her forehead and a bottle of icy water was held before her, ready to hold it while she drank. She took a sip. Then another, and again, one more. It was an elixir of calm.
"Thank you." She whispered as she looked above her for the first time. Her china blue eyes were met with liquid bronze counterparts. She once more thought she looked upon the face of an angel. She was ripped from her thoughts and his engaging smile of concern with yet another searing pain. She gripped hard at the hand she was holding and saw him wince as her other hand twisted the hem of her blouse. The wave of pain subsided in miniscule increments and she eased her grasp. She saw a visible release of tention in his face.
"I'm sorry, did I hurt you?" she asked with genuine concern. He smiled, raining down his generosity as he shook his head.
"Nah... I'm just imagining how much it must hurt for you and I really can't stand to see you in so much pain. My Mom had so many of us, yet I still think the pain was too much. I think you're very brave to be doing this. Having a baby. I admire your courage." He revealed with a real smile upon his placid face. It made her heart swell with pride at his words. It made it that much easier to bear the pain. Especially now since the pain was thrumming through her once more, draining her of energy. She looked up into the kind face of the beautiful man above her and drew strength from it.

"Not long now." Diana's voice floated to her. By now she had been partially disrobed and kindly covered with a towel. It was then she realized herself that the ambulance didn't have time to tend her. She was going to deliver this soul she'd been carrying into the heart of show business. She only hoped her son and his father would forgive her. She was sure they would both understand and she sent a prayer for the both of them, wishing they would have a chance sometime in history to mingle and get to know each other, even if it would be in the afterlife. Just as long as she got him first... for a very long time. A very long time indeed.

"I think you'd better start pushing now... It looks like this little one's ready to meet the world." Diana's voice spoke to her next. She opened her eyes and looked down to the good samaritan woman that was helping her through this. She nodded at her and pulled herself up into a half reclined position with the help of the man behind her. He gave her an encouraging smile and held her hand tighter as he knew what she was preparing to do. Now he took her other hand as well and Lauren sucked in a deep breath. The pain was surreal. The urge to expel the life from her womb was overbearing. With the urging of Diana, she bore down and began to push, all the time marveling at the thought... she was aobut to become somebodies mother!

An occasional cheer from Diana as well as whispered words of encouragement from the man behind her helped her along. She pushed with brute strength she knew not that she possessed. Between tumultious attempts to bring forth life, she rested, slumped against the broad chest of the man that still breathed sure words into her ear, taking the time to wipe her brow now and again. It all happened so fast... yet seemed to be in slow motion for her. It was inexplicable, it was exhaustive, it was the most joyous moment of her life...

Then with a great deal of faith, she bare down and gave a mighty push... welcome to the world Michael Alexander... your mother loves you.
