What is LARP?

LARP is an acronym for "live-action role-playing," or "a live-action role-playing game." Most likely it is very different from any other game you have played in the past. It is improvisation, between several people, each of whom are playing different characters. Unlike a tabletop game, those who participate in a Live Action game have a deeper interaction with their characters. You dress in costume and speak, act and move as your character does.  Each character will have a "character sheet," which sums up the character's abilities (including game mechanics for challenges to combat and how to use them), as well as the characters motivations and history. Your character is devised by you, and is driven by specific goals to achieve, either alone, or with the help of others.  Every other player has their own motivations, and the interaction amongst all of the players creates the story. Of course, like on the stage, certain events aren't played out for real, such as fighting and bank robberies. These are usually done through challenges or writeups . In fact, for the sake of players and any innocent witnesses ( like a wandering police officer, priest, or child ) nothing that looks like a real weapon may be used as a prop.

Got it?

Good.
