:C is for masochists. VB is my preference, especially since I wrote for 15 years in its granddaddy's language: QB!
I can do stuff in one minute that used to take me a week to do before. And STILL takes C programmers 2 months to do!
I agree VB does its job well. Alas, I worked in VB for only a few weeks. I like it, it is addictive, but I couldn't respect it. Whenever I needed to talk to hardware, a C routine had to be called. Without pointers, it is difficult to talk to hardware.
Part of the problem is I think in C when programming, and had to translate my thoughts to VB. Plus, I like C/C++ because you can do ANYTHING in C or C++. Like I said, in VB there are some thing you have to hand over to C.
:Surprisingly enough, a number of processing benchmarks have been done with VB vis a vis C, and there aren't that many cases where C is faster. In some cases VB is actually faster than C. I will agree that for some mass-distributed programs, C is still superior. But then, so is assembly language!
VB has its place, and does its job well. I wish all programs could be made as easily - and quickly! - as VB programs.
:Farkel, who thinks programmers are like old war vets who sit around and argue why the Navy is great and Army sucks, and vice-versa.
I agree. Computer languages, politics, and religion...
