Talk about muddled thinking. I suppose this demonstrates the impossibility for some people to grasp spiritual concepts, and weighty prophetic dramas.

Did it ever occur to you that our "fleeing" to a place of safety is in a spiritual sense? The Scripture tells us to "flee from forniction." Dose that require a literal flight? of course not. At least not usually. So too, when the time of the great tribulation commences, when the "disgusting thing" begins standing where it ought not, that will be the signal for Christians to flee to "the secret place of the Most High God."
In the 91st Psalm, Jehovah is described as giving sanctuary to his people at a time when tens of thousands are falling at the right and left of God's people by an assortment of calamities. Notice that those who are in the "secret place of the Most High" are not physically out of harms way, because it clearly says that these will fall at "your right hand," and, "at your very side." And again: "your eyes will look on and see the retribution itself upon the wicked ones."

Jehovah's promise then is that "no calamity will befall you." And: "I shall rescue him." That would indicate that Jehovah's Witnesses will indeed be in the thick of things, but because of Almighty Jehovah's protection, the disaster that sweeps the ungodly away onto our organic compost heap, will itself not touch the faithful.

So, it is obvious that the place to which Christians flee at the time the calamity is unleashed upon the wicked ones, is a symbolic place which is accessible only to those with faith. In the end, it is faith, and faith alone that will determine the fate of each person.

By the way, no one is saying the king of the north is still the Soviet Union. Indeed how could it be when the USSR doesn't even exist anymore? The king of the north itself is a symbolic entity which has existed perpetually since the disolution of the Alexandrine empire, but it manifests itself through various political agencies. During the time of Christ for example, the king of the north was the Roman Empire. Today it is something entirely different. / You Know
