JAN - No they don't. Just get yourself an education, and don't wate our time with such ignorant nonsense. Whether you call it a diphthong or not is irrelevant. Phonetics is developed in Europe, and "Y" (J) is considered a consonant, so we don't call it a diphthong here.
Where in the world is Jan getting the "y" from? We are dealing with the iota and eta in Greek. Not the
upsilon. Where or where is iota EVER transliterated in Greek grammars as a "y"?
