1. This proposal for the most part nullifies the benefits of the FPP for the simple reason that it leaves the offending post on the board. The FPP already contains a warning, and it's being ignored. So, this proposal will simply lead to endless debate. Many of the posters that are currently being deleted will simply take the warning, tone it down briefly, and then violate the FPP again. That's what they're doing now and it should be obvious to anyone that they are not doing this out of ignorance. The issue of FPP violation has been repeatedly raised and most of these people know exactly what they're doing. So why issue a warning? If you've got a new poster that's different, and I would support at least one warning and direction to the FPP for such individuals. For the rest this proposal is just licence.

What is the 'warning' that is going to be issued? The only thing meaningful would be that if there is any repetition the poster would be banned and I don't believe that's what you're proposing. Otherwise you end up with the situation we constantly see in public, some bratty kid being told repeatedly by a parent, "You'd better stop, you'd better stop, you'd better stop, on and on ad infinitum.

It's understandble that this proposal is being supported by most of those down thread. To them it's simple capitulation.

2. What about the moderators being accused of censorship and violations of free speech? I guess that's not important. This is a proposal that is going to considerably increase the work load of any conscientous moderator and most of them are already pretty busy people. Certainly I am.

The only thing that could realistically work would be something like a series of 'tick' boxes with fairly general categories that could just be marked and that would be the end of it.

In my opinion the basic premise of this proposal is wrong. Probably 95% know exactly why their posts are deleted so this serves little purpose other than making the process more difficult and cumbersome. That's why they want it.
