History Formally opened in June of the year 1997 by the late Bishop Rafael M. Lim D.D., Liberty House aims to provide free housing for the less privileged but deserving students from Marinduque. It serves as their home away from home, while staying in Manila for their college education. It is located at 828 Sisa St., Sampaloc, Manila, aptly selected because this place is near the "University Belt".
Short Description
Liberty House is a remodeled 2-storey house with a bed capacity of 30-35 persons. The first floor serves as the girls’ quarter and likewise the second floor is for the boys'. It has 8 bathrooms. Water comes from a 1000 gallon tank and distributed through a pressure pump. Also an air conditioned multi-purpose room (the MACUSA
Room) serves as a guest lounge.
The electric and water bills are free of charge for the students. In the year 2006, the Liberty House
Management group (composed of 3rd to 5th year college students who were appointed as officers) have inclu- ded in the requirements for incoming freshmen to share 1 sack of rice as their contribution for the whole year.
This was upon the suggestion of Rev. Fr. Rene Sapungan. It has been an annual tradition that a concelebrated
mass will be held at the house to start of the academic year. The house also provides free lunch and merienda
during Sunday. Every student has their own individual task to perform inside the house and is expected to strict-
ly follow the 11-point rules of conduct while residing in the house. Furthermore, students should treat each other
as brothers and sisters or as one family while at the Liberty House.
Why Liberty?
1. Liberty means freedom from poverty through education.
2. Liberty means the spirit of Marinduqueños helping each other.
3. Incidentally, Liberty was also the name of founder's late wife.
