MOMS Club®
of Lewis Center, OH
Frequently Asked Questions
How often will I get a newsletter?
Both the North and South chapters of the MOMS Club of Lewis Center, OH publish a monthly newsletter and calendar for its members.  The newsletter contains a message from our club President as well as other chapter information and reminders.  The calendar shows all the activities scheduled for the month.   If you do not receive a newsletter, please contact the Newsletter coordinator.

What do I do when I want to go to an activity on the calendar?
One of the wonderful things about MOMS Club is the variety of activities.  All daytime activities include children.  When you see an activity on the calendar you would like to attend check to see if an RSVP is requested.  If there is, just let the person know by phone or e-mail that you will be coming.  In most cases, if you decide at the last minute to attend and you havent RSVPd thats okay too.  We understand the sudden need to get out of the house!

When you come to an activity, just show up.  Look for the other members and join in the fun.  If you arent sure who you are looking for, call the person hosting the activity beforehand and let her know you will be coming so she can be on the lookout for you.

Even if you dont think your child is the appropriate age for an activity, please come anyway!  Its a great way to get out of the house and meet the other moms!

What does it mean to host an event/activity?
When you host an activity, it means you are adding an activity to the calendar and that you will be in attendance.  This way the other members who come will know whom to look for when they arrive.  It also gives the members a contact to call if they have questions about the activity.

How do I put an activity on the calendar?
Every month, the Calendar coordinator sends out an e-mail to all members asking them to put activities on the calendar.  All you have to do is contact the Calendar coordinator and tell her the activity, date, time and any other information you want the members to know (i.e., if an RSVP is required, directions, fee, what they can bring, etc.).  The activity you host can be as simple as a play date a local mall or more involved such as a craft and lunch at your home.

In order to get a variety of activities on the calendar we ask that each member add something to the calendar once every two to three months.

What do I do if my information on the roster changes?
If any of your information on the roster changes (i.e., phone number, address, e-mail address, etc.), please contact the Membership Vice President to have the information updated. The changes will be published in the next newsletter and the next roster.

What is the purpose of the monthly Business Meeting?

On the third Thursday of each month we hold our Business Meeting.  All business of the group is conducted at these meetings.  For example we discuss and vote on service projects, fundraising activities, and any other business that affects the club.  In addition, we often have guest speakers attend the meeting.  If you have an idea for a guest speaker, please contact the guest speaker coordinator.

Free childcare is offered at the Business Meetings and children are encouraged to go in the childcare room so all members can enjoy the meeting.

When I joined you asked for my e-mail address.  Will I receive e-mails from the MOMS Club?
All members are invited to subscribe to Yahoo! Groups, a free on-line service for groups like us! Once you are subscribed, all messages from group members will come directly to your inbox. You will receive reminders of the activities for the upcoming week. We also send out general information and requests. Often we will use e-mail to communicate last-minutes changes to an activity (like if its raining and we need to change an outdoor location an indoor one). If you do not have e-mail or do not wish to receive e-mails from the group, please contact the Yahoo Group Coordinator for our chapter.

How can I join a playgroup?
Playgroups are a fun way for moms and children to get to know each other on a smaller scale. Playgroups consist of 4-7 moms who get together on a weekly or bimonthly basis at each others homes.  If you are interested in finding out more about playgroups or want to join one, please contact our Playgroup Coordinator.

What is Moms Night Out?
Moms need a night out now and then so we work to coordinate a monthly outing just for us.  This is done during the week and it is generally at a restaurant or at another members home.  This is a great way to relax away from the kids and get to know the other members a little better.

Each Moms Night Out activity is listed in the monthly newsletter.  If you have a suggestion for a Moms Night Out activity, please contact the Moms Night Out coordinator.

What is Helping Hands?
Helping Hands is a way for MOMS Club members to help other members when they have new babies, illnesses in the family, or whenever they feel they need help. Most often it involves bringing a meal, running errands, arranging play dates for children and childcare.  If you would like to sign up to bring a meal or run an errand for a mom in need, please contact our Helping Hands coordinator.

If you are ever in need of Helping Hands, please contact the Helping Hands coordinator, or just let another member know and she will contact the coordinator for you.

What is the Mother-To-Mother (MOM-2-MOM) Fund?
The Mother-To-Mother fund is a special charitable fund organized by the International MOMS Club and supported by local Chapters.  It was started after the 1994 Northridge/Simi Valley Earthquake to help MOMS Club mothers suffering from natural disasters.  The next year, it was expanded to also help mothers experiencing devastating personal emergencies or disasters.
Only MOMS Club members suffering from devastating situations are eligible for grants.  Grants are made based on the members need, the nature of the emergency or disaster, and previous support of the fund by the chapter.

All money in the Fund comes from local chapters and members.  Our chapter contributes by holding a 50/50 raffle at each Business Meeting.  At each meeting, members pay $1 for a chance to win half of all the money contributed that day.  All money raised by our chapter through the raffle is sent to the International Mother-to-Mother fund.

Does the MOMS Club have Holiday Parties?
Yes.  Throughout the year we will have holiday parties with snacks, crafts, games, etc.  These parties are on our monthly calendar.  The Holiday Party Committee is in charge of organizing these parties.  If you have any ideas for a holiday party, or would like to help organize a holiday party, contact a member of the board and they will get you in touch with someone on the the Holiday Party Committee.

Is there a MOMS Club website?
Yes, there is a national MOMS Club website: www.momsclub.org; as well as our chapter website: http://www.geocities.com/lewiscentermomsclub/. Our chapter website is maintained by our Website Coordinator.

Is the club involved in any community service projects?
One of the goals of the MOMS Club is to perform at least one charitable, humanitarian or social welfare project related to children each year.
