Red and Black: The Lester Jackson Manifesto > THEORY #2: LESTER ALIVE AND WELL top
|
|
Admist all the theories regarding murder and deception in the disappearance of Lester Jackson, is the just as likely scenario, that Lester may have left on his own accord, as a result of either being exhausted by his own whirlwind lifestyle, the losses of friends, or perhaps alerted to warnings that his life might be in danger if he were to continue as he had been. The following facts illustrate a portrait of a man, who had been known to stop in the middle of anything that no longer captured his interest, a man who actually disappeared on his own once before, and a man who seemed poised with enough pressures, and negative events, to leave once and for all to avoid burning his candle out at both ends, before someone else snuffed out the candle:
The FACTS:
- FRANCES SILENCED IN AN ASYLUM: In 1935, Lester likely met Frances Farmer and was largely inspired by her. When he arrived to the states in 1943, he may have had contact with her again just before she was committed to an insane asylum to silence her wild behaviors. He may have been warning her about something, or she in turn, may have been trying to warn him. When she was released in 1950, Frances was not the same as she had been before, by any stretch of the imagination.
- MALCOLM X MURDERED: Nuff said.
- HENDRIX, OTHERS TRACKED BY THE FBI: More facts come of Jimis death, which occurred after Lesters disappearance, but it was never any secret that Jimi and contemporaries such as Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, and John Lennon, were all being watched closely during their lifetimes.
- GEORGE LESTER JACKSON SET-UP: Though the two men never met, George was aware of LJs work, and LJ was aware of George. There was conflicting information released when George, already in prison, was accused of murdering a prison guard, which then resulted in his being put in solitary confinement and ending Georges Black Panther organization involvement. Lester may have been confused with the man by someone else on other occasions, making him watch what happened to GL Jackson and seeing how it could potentially affect him.
- HUNTED BY THE FBI: Though most sources say that the FBI didnt start tracing Lester until the 1963 publication of his book From Black and Communist to Black and Democratic, personal accounts of friends state that he had known Frances. Between that and the fact that he was a Russian-African-American, it seems more than likely that his activities were being watched the second he entered the country in 1943. The FBI, as part of its COINTELPRO resurfaced, to infiltrate his 1968 campaign.
- RACISM/POLITICAL ENEMY: The second Lester entered the country, it was made clear that this Knee-grow from a Communist land was not going to have as easy of a go in this country as he thought previously. Compounded by his Socialist activities, he most certainly had many more powerful, hidden enemies than visible friends. The Socialist Party themselves saw him as an outsider and refused to endorse him in his bid for the Senate.
- POSSIBLY HUNTED BY THE NATION OF ISLAM: Lesters book was read by a great number of people, including Malcolm X, who expressed his fondness for Jacksons work when they met in 1964. As they forged their friendship, Malcolm seemed to be influenced by him in opposing his Nation of Islam philosophies and violent, racist views. He abandoned all that once he returned to the United States, and seemed rejuvenated with a new outlook on life. This did not endear him to the Nation of Islam and likely did much the same for Lester Jackson.
- HISTORY OF STRESS, DISGUISE, DRASTIC CHANGES: Lester left the Soviet Union to escape views he did not agree with. He changed his name, and told very little about his family and life before America. Seven years, after making his first film, Lester quit action because he just needed a break. Then, having earned a degree in Political Science at a community college in Los Angeles, Lester did not immediately enter politics, because he needed some time away from it. After being in school for two years, I just wanted to get away from the whole concept of societal regulations. He also indicated that soccer for him, was an escape a physical way of releasing anxiety and stress. He and Dee moved to Accra, Ghana, to get away from hostile situations in the U.S. and he chose that time to retire from soccer. In fact, he and Dee had moved across the country several times. After Malcolms death, Lester sought peace and a new start in London. In disguise, he was found making fast friends with Jimi Hendrix, and reluctantly returned to the spotlight back in the States. When asked by Shelton Masters about whether or not he wished to quit music at the time, Lester said, Im never so dogmatic as to say I will definitely do this, or definitely do that. A lot of people ask me why I wear my wig, maybe tomorrow I wont. When he returned to the States, he continued to wear the blond afro wig for a bit longer, though there was no obvious need to. After Dees miscarriage, Lester abandoned his music career. He was also seen stressed out, having mood swings and talking to himself on occasion, and wandering around town aimlessly. During his illness, he withdrew from the Senate race.
- THE MISSING BOOK: Lester was writing a book primarily focusing on Malcolm X, at the time Malcolm was killed. Afterwards he said he would never release it. No other mention was made of the book. Its contents can be viewed as stress-inducing.
- THE POISONING: The last known major activity to happen to Lester before his disappearance, was what doctors revealed was a poisoning during the middle of his Senate bid. Bed-ridden, he recuperated and immediately disappeared.
Did Lester take a break? Was he trying to save his own life, from those who might wish to do him harm? Did he sense impending doom? Did he destroy his second book or did he leave it for clues, and it ended up in the hands of someone who wont reveal them? If he was alive, where did he go and when? What had he done all those years? Is he still alive?
