ABOUT THE LJ MANIFESTO
This site is dedicated to Lester Jackson, the most controversial Russian-African-American in history. He was a jack-of-all trades, having starred in several films, written a book, played a short stint as backing guitarist for the legendary Jimi Hendrix, and even a run in the world of politics. At the height of his popularity and what appeared to be a great deal of influence upon intrigued potential voters, Lester Jackson vanished into thin air.
That was in 1969.
Over 30 years, later, Lester has been the subject of biographies in both book, and screenplay forms. In 1995, a young filmmaker named Kevon Ford, continued the exploration of Jackson's life by producing both a documentary as well an underground book. The book, Lester Jackson: More Than an American Hero and the film, Red and Black: The Life of Lester Jackson are the most comprehensive sources available, and have served as huge inspirations as well as research materials for this site. However, like all proceeding works, these do not wholly steer us into a solid direction regarding Lester's disappearance. There are multiple theories surrounding everything from potential foul play involving the United States Government and/or The Russian Government. Some evidence also seems to point to possible connections between Jackson's disappearance, which was sandwiched between the deaths of his friends musician Jimi Hendrix, and civil rights revolutionary Malcolm X. Futhermore, given Lester's long-standing independent, unpredictable nature, it is also possible that he may have left by his own free will... to rest from a lifetime of progressive and meaningful activity. He vanished shortly after falling ill to a poisioning, which could have served as either a warning to silence or encouragement to rest.
Did Lester feel that his work was done? Where did he go and where is he now? Was he murdered? By whom? Why?
The Lester Jackson Manifesto will present as much information as possible in hopes of uncovering the truth about Lester Jackson, but even moreso, to pay our respects to a brilliant and talented man, who left us much too soon, by all accounts.
