Stories

These will prove to you that I’m not a professional astronomer

November 17, 2001 - Loenid Meteor Shower from midnight till about 4 am, my son david and I, watch fireballs streak across the sky.

November 17 2002 - Tom & Marty Baggs came for a visit durring the summer, and on my urging found a spot in Texas to observe the event. You’ll have to ask them what they saw. Here, in Northeast Ohio, it was cloudy all day!
:(

August 11, 2003 - Perseid Meteor Shower. I sent my son David out to report on the shower (I was stuck doing chores! grrr). David excitedly came in to drag me out to describe an event. Appearently, he was watching a plane traveling east, when a fireball traveled a length of the previously invisible vapor trail, and lit up the trail with a green light. When I got out there I could make out the section of the vapor trail.

August 14 2003 - the Big Blackout. there was so little light pollution that I was able to make out NCG 7160. a 6th or 7th-magnitude open cluster in Cepheus.
