Model |
This is a model of stars within 100 light years of our own Sun. You will need a VRML plug-in to view it. There are a couple of links at the bottom of the page which will take to vendors in which you can get one. There are a couple of notes on this model following the picture. |

Notes |
Although the size of the stars is a bit arbitrary they are relatively correct (for example a type Ia is much larger than a type VII). The distances are as correct as I can figure. The spectral types are only representative. I picked the colors I liked that I thought fit the type. I know there are errors. I already found one star doubled. And, I found another without a name. I’ll fix then as I go along. If you really want to let me know, write me at [email protected]. If you want to create your own model, ( a real I-can-touch-it model) go here: http://www.essex1.com/people/speer/starmodel.html. |

VRML Browsers |
BitManagement Software Gmbh. - Their browser is the one I’m currently using on my Win98 machine. In the near future I’ll make a recommendation for a Linux box. Web3D Consortium - As far as I can tell these folk are responsible for keeping VRML alive, along with an emerging standard called 3XD. Go there and click on their resources link |
