HOW TO GET HITS!
the simplest way to get hits is to walk up to a big angry mean-looking dude and say "your mother is so fat I rolled over twice and I was still on top of her!"
but for hits on the INTERNET you have to try a little harder!
The first step is to List your page at search engines!
All the big search engines have ways you can list your site with them. BIG search engines include google, yahoo, alta-vista, big mamma, lycos, MSNSearch and many others.
You also tell them keywords or phrases. For example key words for this page include "web-guru, HTML, hypertext, and "how-to".
So if you look for "web-guru" at any of the big search engines, my site should be one of the first ones in the list. Fingers crossed.
ALSO, there are some services on the net that will list you at lots of search engines at once, for free. My favourite is called 'add me'. It's much quicker than going through the process yourself.
Another handy way to get hits is to ask webgurus of similar pages to provide links to your site. For example I have a guitar site, and i asked the people at a site called 'Harmony Central' to provide a link to my site. They did, so now about half my traffic comes via that link.
