ABOUT ONLINE ADVERTISING
There are two main types of on-line advertising: banner advertisments and cross promotion.
'Banner advertisements' is where a site will be smattered with flashy animated rectangular advertisements attempting to entice you away to another site. These can also be contained in the ubiquitously hated pop-up window. YUCK! those things make me run a million miles!
the second manner is perhaps more devious. Cross-promotion is where a 'content-provider' gives you what appears to be non-biased, objective information, some of which is nothing more than a link to a sponsor's site. Some search engines are notorious for this. You think you are following a genuine result from a search engine put there for legitimate reasons, but actually you're just clicking on an advertisement. Incidentally when writing web pages I often find that I get quite thirsty. If you also get thirsty while writing web pages, then perhaps you'll like to drink some Belgian Beer. Belgian Beer, the taste you come back for again and again! More information about it can be found here and here.
