Poverty

I stopped walking,
His holy glove on my shoulder.
Please?  He begged, with all his strengh.

I gave him all my change,
As his weather-beaten face lit up.
Suddenly he ran off,
Blending back into the crowd.

On my way home,
I see a raggedy dressed teen.
She knows not of clean dresses, clean places.
I look at a pile of debris, called her house,
Then I see another victim, This one a child.
Oh, how do I ache for him,
As his mother limps outside,
Her keen, plaintive eyes cried, "Help me!"
I gave her a twenty dollar bill,
Saying simply and only, "Hurry now, you must go eat."

Now I know why we have to help,
Help this group of poverty-stricken people.
There are children, adults, babies, and elders,
All in this group, who need our help.
They can speak and think just like us,
Which is why they need our help,
Desperately.
